Thoughts and prayers for your friend.
My Great Aunt Mary went with Alzheimers. Went back year after I enlisted, she didn't know me, thought I was one of her 4 husbands she wore out. Cruel way to go, worse on their friends and family. :(
Coolest old broad I ever knew, may she rest in peace.

Murray, I like the chrome look too.

Good morning. Let the medical appointments begin. Today is VA day with a blood draw and a urine draw at 08:30. At 1:00pm I have a meeting with a PA in Pikesville, MD about 40 miles away. All forms are filled out and I have both prescription bottles ready to go for the afternoon visit. I received 2 more forms to fill our, both of them release forms for the VA. I need to call the lady at the MD. Veterans Assistance center for a little guidance on the forms. Going to be a busy day.

I've never maintained or established my veterans status. Lately I've run into a couple of places where it would have been to my benefit to have the card, for discounts etc. Don't have a clue who to contact or how it's done. Anyone else gone through this recently enough that they can share their experience?

Local VFW Post is my recommendation. They have VSOs (Veteran Service Officers) paid positions by the VFW.
Here's a starting point for you:

Good luck with the appointments, my wife and I seem to like most PA's better. The seem to spend more time with you.

My wife has 3 brothers who served in Vietnam, her 1 brother has had many challenges. His oldest son was a recruiter, towards the time when he retired, he looked into his father's service record he found he had earned a purple heart and medal of honor, that he never got the metals or extra benefits for agent orange. He got the ball rolling on a long with the VFW. Maybe check that out or go to your local veterans service office. They should be able to get the ball rolling for you. Good Luck.

:pccoffee:  sixtys/wannabes/swelterers. We're looking at increasingly hot weather through the week, ugh.

My dad got some really good discounts on medications through VA, plus free hearing aids when he got to the point of needing those. Definitely seemed worth it from what I saw.

A little something every chance we get.
:pccoffee: Good Morning Porch Pals & Sue! A pleasure to go find all the drips in the greenhouse all doing their job properly this morning! Pick up the truck after wife gets back from grocery pickup. She uses that curbside, rather than going in. She likes it, but we don't always get exactly what she asked for on-line. They changed a couple numbers in the forecast this morning. It was 104* even all week.

    Screenshot_20230725_082308_KXAN Weather.jpg

Everyone is so used to the 105*+ record numbers we just set, having it only less than that is now "normal"!

I don't think I could get used to that heat but I'm sure just like the cold I've learned to handle it.

Sorry for the late advice about the VA I was driving to my last PT appointment for my shoulder. But the VA /VFW both organizations were helpful to my dad and other family members.

Prayers for your friend with dementia Murray. It is a disease that has no cure. Terrible way to go

RIP Aunt Mary . Both my In-laws had and passed from dementia. It was heart breaking watching them go through the disease.

OUCH. Loved flying in them but getting in could be a bit trickier if there was a wind. Glad he is going to be okay.

Stay cool and hydrated Kurt

    Today's plunder
We got 70 of em, not a huge haul, had to work to find em.
The dark clam on the lower left is a Manila clam. Usually get a few and are good tasting.

I'm glad you can eat them, not my wife's or my thing. She likes most things that swim, I'm more into land creatures.

Thanks Ken. I think the hardest thing a person can lose is their memories and sense of self. In the end that all one has. When my dad passed he had his mind but his body was shot. Lost a leg, use of an arm and started to lose his other leg, along with other things associated with that. When he passed he weighed 87lbs in his prime about 195 - 205.

My mom passed back in May, same thing, mind totally active and acute, the body, shriveling away to nothing; it was a mercy when she passed.
