First post on this thread. Before finding this thread, I'd have 1 bottle in the house at a time. Now;bout 40 bottles and built a whiskey wall and have learned to enjoy it neat or an old fashioned as opposed to with woke coke. Thanks?
i do have a question on the pics. got this bottle out of my grandpa's liquor cabinet after he passed and was curious if an estimate could be made on age by the Tax Stamp Number? Havent opened it yet and not opposed to just mainly curious how old it may be
    Thank in advance.

I added some lighting to the inside of my bar so I can see what is in there without needing to get a flashlight.:D The downside is now I can see how badly it needs to be dusted.o_O

I find their stuff a bit harsh but for a local distillery it’s not bad. they did a nice partnership with Narragansett beer a number of years ago. Stay away from the pumpkin if they still make it.

While I do like to keep a good variety in my bar. I have those because they are the last two bottles I have left from my tour in Korea. They are 28 years old now and given what they are distilled from I’m not sure if they are actually safe to drink or not. That stuff could make a person go nuts :goingcrazy: after drinking a little too much when it was fresh. There’s no telling what it would do now.:drunk:

Just shows how much more space you have to add bottles and cover up the dusty spots!

Lol. My other half is Korean and I've had soju at the FILs house a time or two. He sent me home with a "special" bottle of soju. Apparently made by someone he knows, not quite legal, as you can see by the bottle with no labels! Honestly, it's not bad... no strong taste of anything noticeable. But it packs a bit of a punch.

Absolutely random post of the day.

There’s a theory floating out there, connecting the popularity of 1792 Sweet Wheat to good ole Pappy.

It goes like this. Pappy became popular starting in the late 1990’s as it began bagging numerous awards and gaining lots of publicity at the same time the bourbon resurgence began.

Pappy’s parent company, Sazerac, also owns the 1792 line, having bought Barton in 2009.

As Pappy became increasingly scarce due to increased demand, enthusiasts flocked to Buffalo Trace’s Weller line, a lesser known set of bottles but wheated like Pappy. Thus the entire Buffalo Trace craziness began and spread throughout the product line even to the non-wheated offerings.

The theory goes that, Weller having become scarce too, folks shifted their attention to 1792 Sweet Wheat, as the next wheated bottle available from the same ownership group, and with theoretical ties to processes and mash bills from Buffalo Trace. And thus the Sweet Wheat became scarce.

And there you go, a day too soon for wheated Wednesday.

I’ve heard they put out alot of really good bottles.. usually a pappy..I heard they also don’t just put everything out at once. They replenish throughout the day.

I'd believe it. Social media lends itself to petty squabbles, of which brand loyalty is a subset.

    And thus:

Yes, there is more room on the shelf than I thought, and I can think of several bottles I'd like to fill the spaces with. Blanton's, Weller, Col Taylor, Makers Mark... I'm sure a few others are worthy of space in my bar.:D

I think I brought home six bottles. Later on, I had a roommate from Kentucky whose family liked to make moonshine. I let him get wasted on a bottle. His comparison the day after was that Soju was way worse on the body than his family's moonshine. My memories of Soju are that it was some very potent liquor. At some point in the last couple of decades, I decided I wasn't going to open the last two bottles short of a damn good reason, mainly because they weren't easily replaceable. They aren't as special as your FIL's "special" bottle of Soju, but I did buy them in Korea; they were not imported here. If I had such a good connection for some premium Soju, I'd certainly keep space for it in my bar.

How many Sweet Wheat's would Pete buy if Pete could buy Sweet Wheat?

Did you end up buying that bottle the other day?

You know, I can’t really say until I try my bottle, which won’t be soon…maybe I won’t even like it. I just find the demand for it kind of fascinating.

If I found it at retail I’d definitely buy a couple though…

I did pick up that bottle but only to pass it along to another TW’er

I'm sure you'll like it. How much is the question.

As for the theory. I wouldn't be surprised if Barton's wheated mashbill was identical to BT's. I tried the Sweet Wheat a few months ago. "This is Weller SR" - I said to my buddy as soon as I tasted it.

I'd love to compare the two back to back.
