All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
It’s all just time in the seat. Keep pushing yourself to get on it everyday. Even if you go no where just runs some drills in your yard. Stick a bunch of logs in your yard, your neighbors will love you!

I am still getting used to the motor on the 890r. I have been used to riding either dirtbikes or big twins. This is way better Offroad, I can throw it around. The motor just requires more shifting than I am used to on the twins.

The heat is rough, I've been trying to get out early in the morning but even then it's been humid a lot of days.

11k miles not too shabby! I was looking at my rear tire and surprised how much its worn already @3100 miles. The ContiAttack SM Evo is soft and grippy but doesn't seem like it will have a very long life span.

Yup it's that red one in there, pretty cool bike with the V4 and single sided swing arm.

Sweet looking good. Tell him to keep an eye on the counter shaft seal, mine was leaking from new. Not badly just a very slow weep. Apparently it's a common issue on the 690/701. I finally made an appointment to have it fixed in a couple weeks.

Last pair of these tires I got 12.8k and it's the front one that wears out first! I bet the rear had another 1-2k left in it. I had that on my other FJR as well and it seems to work that way for most owners. Part of why I bought a Nomar tire changer.....

Thinking as much as I don't really want to ride in downtown Philly that might have to be an upcoming mural run......

I guess I get to learn how to do fork seals now.

I haven't done any inverted forks but conventional like my FJR are fairly straightforward. If you don't want the trouble of buying a special seal driver a piece of PVC pipe works well. So far I've found OEM fork seals to be better than the aftermarket stuff. YMMV

My friend has the seal drivers! I think he just has all the sizes so I should be set.

Also @BkerChuck I just read a post on the Versys forum where someone tried several aftermarket seals and had their forks constantly leak till they went back to OEM... so thanks for the heads up! Will call the dealership and get some.

Unsure how this applies to inverted forks but on conventional forks it's not a bad idea to replace any bushings while you have them apart. On my bike the bottom bushing see the most wear as it travels the furthest with suspension travel. The top bushing isn't too bad but you end up pulling it out when you tear them down so no point in trying to reuse it. Of course new fork oil goes without saying. I recently did my forks and upgraded fork springs while I was in there.

You have a 3d printer, right? If they don't have the right diameter just print your own! I did that for my F800GS and it worked phenomenally.

That's an awesome idea! If I can't get the drivers from my friend I'll do that.

I'll keep that in mind! Most likely be in September at this point but have to see what I have coming up. I know Philly is the mural capitol with almost 4k murals but damn city riding can suck!

This is what I did: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4702180

Really simple, two cylinders and a hole, with just a .2mm gap between the two halves to allow it to split into two pieces.

Sounds good and September should be cooler at least. Totally agree, I avoid the city and mostly ride out in farm country on my favorite twisty back roads.
