In the meantime, the to do list is:

-Fabricate bracket for muffler- the Briggs muffler is not welded to the pipes and sits on a bracket for easy removal. Kinda neat.

-possibly swap the hour meter from the craftsman and run parallel to the Ferris meter to easily track engine hours.

    -adjust throttle cable

    -eventual oil filter relocation kit

    Parts on the way:
    -voltage regulator
    -replacement fuel pump pulse hose
    -new plugs
-cap for front caster wheel upper bearing

I mowed with it on Saturday. It has PLENTY of power. I’m honestly impressed. It didn’t bog cutting my VERY overgrown yard at 3.5”. It feels amazing to have a machine that I don’t have to mess with before I mow. Turn the key, it comes to life.

Looking for a little help tracking down a battery for my father in laws tractor. Older model 855 John Deere bucket loader. Needs to be jumped every time you want to use it and it’s been at my property for a bit now. Figured a new battery would be a nice thank you. The current battery is not original to the tractor. Including the VIN plate if that’s the way to track down battery stats.

Batteries are sold by group size (dimensions & post location) and then cranking amps within the group, more amps = more $$.

Usually there are a few cranking amp selections within the group, personally if I am going to keep the vehicle I purchase the largest amp battery that will fit in the holder, they seem to last longer.

If the current battery sits in the holder properly it is probably the proper group, take it to your local NAPA store or other reputable dealer, they can either look the tractor specifications up or match the size. Deka is a quality brand, made in Pennsylvania.

I prefer not to buy batteries from Auto Zone or Advance.

Go to your closest Deere dealer and buy the John Deere strongbox battery for it. They are just a little more but last very well and are worth what they cost

Stepping in to read and try to help.

I found a parts catalog for the 855.

    https://partscatalog.deere.com/jdrc/navigation/pin/M00855d630062/equipment/73152

Click on the right side and you can drill down in, ie: electrical, then battery. I believe it was item #12. Click on it and it will give you battery info. Or I could just do it for yea. Haha

    Verify with JD as well.

I think they made that one go ''yoink.'' They have a yard force one also that, if you try to pull it up, it shows unavailable.

There were quite a few of those available last night pretty late so I don't think they actually sold out unless someone snagged the entire lot for resale.

We shall see if it ships. I should have ordered the champion rear tine as well for $179.

That's a slightly different model than the one I bought. I'm thinking about ordering this one as well and taking back the one I like least. Looks like the same motor but there are some different features and the size is considerably different. They gave me an est delivery date of Aug 3rd on the first one.

Hmm, just tried it again. Used Chrome instead of Firefox on my phone and it came up. Weird :notsure:

I hope it all goes through. Really want to plant a garden and this is a great deal to get started.

I ordered the other Legends Force that's sold out for $199. The one I ordered has an adjustable handle and selectable gear drive, but it's 60 lbs heavier. I can see the weight being better in some ways and worse in others. HD claims retail price on the one I ordered at $699, vs. $849 for the one sale for $179. They look to have the same 212cc engine. The heavier model digs a little deeper and looks to have four spokes per tine vs. three. With the easy return policy they have, I think it makes sense to buy them both.

Does anyone with any experience with walk-behind tillers want to weigh in on the differences in these machines?

My main concern is handling the 60# difference in their weight. 218# vs 158# I think I could manage to lift 158 lbs into the back of my truck; I don't think I could do the same with 218 lbs. Taking the bigger machine anywhere would certainly mean bringing along ramps for loading.

I like the rotating handle, and the gear drive transmission seems like it'd be worth the extra $20. Also, it appears like the heavier machine doesn't have an option for freewheeling the tires, like the lighter machine.
