My cousin has two currently. They are really cool cars, both turbos too. Maybe one day I will get one, but I currently am enjoying my current "sports" car. Plus if I had an MR2 I would have to try to recreate one of my favorite cars on YouTube.

My old buddy taught me to drive stick on his 1st gen MR2. "taught" aka my 1 and only 10 min lesson. But I've wanted one since

Probably good I don't have one with all the boomers and trucks out here, I'd probably be in a coma

That just makes sense, all MR2 should have Honda engines. There's no alternative in my mind

I really need to finish mine
2gr all the way, mild cam and 8k rpm, big turbo, 600 wheel, DQ250. Make C8 owners sad for days.

Eh, I know people like that swap. It has merit, but I'd rather the space afforded by the K series, it fits a whole lot better, and the greater aftermarket support and stronger transmissions. Upside is you get away from V6 noises too and ultimately the K series has more options for making greater power than the 2GR if you really wanted to.

    Build one!

I'm not a k-hater but imo 2GR is Toyotas "LS or "K" and for the price... Power is very comparable and arguably better driveability with the 2GR.

I don't truly have that much interest in the MR2, I like them from afar. But I don't find them all that compelling after having driven an AW11/SW20 and the weird Spyder thing, they're for smaller people than myself. But you could bet if I was going to it would be a K series. I do agree with your sentiment about the 2gr though, it's the closest thing Toyota has to an engine anybody might want third party. I'm not a big 2GR fan for the costs involved to do anything beyond just buying it, and I really wouldn't be happy having V6 noises after all the effort for a swap either. But hey if you guys keep pushing it hard enough maybe it'll be a formidable platform with decent support in a little bit of time, the other oems that use it seem to like it well enough.

Yeah having to go haltech for anything beyond just immobilizer and AT cel is a bit painful compared to other platforms.... And not having a ton of kits available.... Definitely worse lol.
And the few off the shelf kits available are generally for lotus owners, and they charge 7x what an equivalent for K, VW or LS is.

It's on its way to be coming something in the swap world, just needs some more bellhousing support and maybe enough recognition to get some PNP harnesses. I wish Toyota would have put the I6/V6/V8 on a single bellhousing like GM did way back in the dark ages and we could have a ton more support built in. But it's got the LS advantage of being put in literally anything with a Toyota V6 badge so they aren't hard to find or super spendy fresh out of a wreck. The price for four cams is a bit hard to swallow when you're looking at using it NA though. It's in that weird middle area right now like the Honda J series engines, people are using them but it's still too sporadic. We need like one major YouTuber or car show to do a high profile build and show some manufacturers its worth the time to produce parts for it and that an audience is waiting for their products.

Well that's the thing, with some very minor DIY work it adapts directly to a (later model?) 5VZ bellhousing... so after I finish my sus build I will do TT on the taco

and I think thats a thing that *I* figured out relatively recently

Excited for the twins on the 2G, that'll rip I'm sure. Gonna tune on a stock minivan computer?
