My throttle controller (2003) is bad and when I took it off and to the dealership, they ran the number stamped on the part (below the Toyota name) and said it was invalid, not in the system. They ordered the controller that their computer said I needed and when it came in, it had three wires coming into it and the one that came on my truck has four wires.
The dealership has no answers. I went to an auto parts store and their system said my truck takes the three wire version also. My 2003 was at the very end of that model year so maybe Toyota did something not quite right to finish the model year.
Has anyone run into this? What’s the fix???

Often when I press the accelerator pedal, nothing happens. Even if I press it halfway to the floor, the engine rpm doesn’t change.

Late 2003 Toyota went to a 4 wire tps. Toyota only sells the entire throttle body. Some threads say a 4 wire tps is sold separately.
Try stepping on the gas pedal all the way to the floor and release a 100 times with the truck not running. I do that about every year on my 2004. Apparently the tps has contacts in it that get dirty and working the gas pedal a hundred times cleans it. No kidding!

^ this. the ETCS-i was introduced in 2003 as a "drive-by-wire" kind of TB. janky setup but essentially it's a multi-part electronics talking to each other

cable is still connected for "limp mode" in case things fail, it gives about 1/4 throttle to get you off the road

however you can occasionally find the TPS

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
Sadly most Toyota Parts departments are really lost searching for parts once the vehicle is much older then 10 years old.

Interesting. I'm at the TPS replacement point right now- if that doesn't fix it, I guess it's the whole throttle body next. I can definitely feel the throttle pedal pulsing when the engine cuts out, then kicks back in at cruise. Kinda wish I'd seen this post yesterday- since a new TPS comes with the throttle body assembly from toyota.

I did just purchase a TPS from my local toyota parts, but she had to search hard for it- it wasn't listed in the parts breakout. Luckily the girl was willing to do a little google foo. Part number on the invoice says:
89452-xxxxx Edit: 89452-35030 Sensor, sorry, i ended up with the wrong part- this part number is correct.

I believe that part number is for the drive by cable engines. Not drive by wire which is what you have.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong please.

I’m my experience the failure is the APPS sensor, the one that’s being actuated on the front of the TB. Horrible design and very prone to failure.

Yea, I'm going to go ahead and order the throttle body- this is where I was leading anyway- when the stall abates, I can feel the throttle pedal pulsing through the cable- I'm sure that motor on there has shit the bed.

I got 300K out of my original throttle body is the Phx Az heat. Heat definitely effected mine.

I have one that I want to sell I was told it worked but I wanted to see if there was a way to test it first before selling it.
My truck is an 01 so I can't drive it and see if it works.
