Try Wheel Every Weekend RTT security mounts. I have them and they work perfectly with Frontrunner load bars on my Smartcap

I did order from WEW - even sent them the item link on the load bars and emailed to confirm fit. Either there was a misunderstanding or a mixup as the mounts I received didn't fit the bars. Stupid me I guess, as I should have check upon delivery (bars went to fab shop, mounts to me). WEW is gone for vacation, so I'll check upon their return. Accidents happen, will just have to delay some.

Here are the pics. Also, note the location of the clamps in the front. For those interested in front tie downs, stiffeners, etc., you have 8 inches from the (inside) front of the bed to the clamp. Just FYI, and note sure if this is a change from prior versions.

Several pages ago someone posted about a solution to attach traction boards to the inside top of the Smartcap. I remember seeing it, but cant find it now that I'm looking for it.

Why not just mount them at the back of the bed? Nice and out of the way.

Currently I have a set of Bam Beds in the bed. Don't know if I am going to keep those, but with them in attaching to the rear isn't an option. Just putting them in the bed now works, but isn't optimal.

Want to do the same to mine. I noticed the gull wing doors feel like two layers of thin steel and hollow in the middle. How did you mount the hardware? Did you drill through both layers?

No, I just drilled through one and put in rivnuts but I wish I had gone through both. I will be taking the rivnuts out and replacing.

That's a picture we have on our website that was taken at our old shop in Houston. Those are the BuiltRight universal molle panels. For installation, the mounting holes were drilled through and bolted with 1/2" nylon spacers to avoid rubbing and corrosion.

Ah! Thank you for the clarification.

And as much as I’d like a RTT on top of a smart cap, I’d really like an integrated version similar to GFC.

i go back and forth on integreated shell/campers. its cool to stand up, but im not really organized enough to climb in and out through my bed. i bring different stuff on different camping trips and my bed is packed different all the time.

the gfc is one of the few that lets you climb up through the side. ive noticed other brands dont even give you the option.

then propane makes me wonder if its safe to leave under you in the same area. if not, then you gotta mount it or put it outside when you sleep. not a huge deal, but kind of moves away from the whole integrated solution.

im sure its great, and i may wanna move to one at some point, idk.

Just received and installed the Smartcap Adventure on a 2017 Taco Pro. What I received in my kit was a clamp system that looked like the instructions reference to a gladiator. I basically used it like the gladiator set up since I have slide rails. Also dont have any holes in the smartcap edge. Is this correct? The only written instructions I found is online, none in kit, and not sure if they are up to date.

Propane is heavy so it will sink. It is best not stored in an enclosed space as it will fill it. In tow behind campers where it is mounted "inside" something there is always venting with a hole below the propane so it can vent down and out. It would be possible to have it integrated, just need to figure out the venting. Tailgate gap itself might be enough if the propane is stored at that end of the bed and boxed in so it can't drift elsewhere. But I don't know that for sure.

There has also been alot of talk about latches working from the inside and a cover for them to prevent freezing up. Any insite on these issues, are they still in development. I ordered mine from offroad allience last week when they got their shipment in and feel it should be the latest and greatest.
