reminds me of the nights my mom would make "taco pie" when we were growing up lol

 

Lol taco pie sounds interesting

 

basically a casserole made with ground beef, cheese, taco seasoning and tortilla chips. It was amazing but so, so utterly white

 

I think we just need to establish that if there is ground beef in it, it's not really a taco

yeah it was a Tex Mex dish for sure, or maybe a Mizzou-Mex dish if that were a thing. Casseroles are a midwestern staple

 

Yeah, sometimes I like to see the creations my grandma comes up because she didn't really cook before she left Germany and didn't know English when she came to America and started learning from military base wives... her cooking is entirely a hodgepodge of Midwestern and southern styles that just sorta melted together. Either way 100% of it will give you heart disease

Yeah, family that watched me when I lived in Germany had their grandma living with them and I always called her Oma.

That's awesome didn't know your family was from Germany.

 

my dad's side is predominantly French/German (kind of awkward from a WWII perspective but..), my great grandparent's last name was Biere which literally means beer in French lol.
