Damn, my wife was always curious about her family tree but now you peaked my interest with family names/maiden names etc.

 

Have you done the DNA testing? I have my 23&Me results somewhere, they are pretty interesting to see. I need to pull them up again, Rebecca knows them a lot better than I do, she gets really into all that stuff. The only real surprise was some Eastern European I didn't know we had

Are you automatically disqualified from 23&me if you have an extra chromosome?

 

I did some years ago; I get the reminders every few weeks "you have 20 more relatives" etc that show up.

 

yeah can totally see that, especially in your mom (the french german part)

 

yeah I finally turned that off, I don't get as into as it Rebecca does but it is cool to know the basics. Growing up my parents and grandparents were never really entirely sure where the families came from beyond their own generation

huh, I never clicked on the .2% trace ancestry tab on mine before....apparently it's North African, wut

 

I guess it is the cradle of life so technically we all originated from there

 

Surprised it's low on that side, but not for the European side for me.

My dad's side is mostly Puerto Rican but ancestry says I have roots in Cuba, etc which makes sense being all close together

Maybe my really dark relatives on my father's distant side is still really...Rican/Cuban vs African American

This was my Italian mom making tacos when we were kids. Thank God I had Mexican friends.

 

One of my ex's was lighter than me skin-tone wise..her dad had darker skin (Colombian) but her mom was from Argentina and had a very light complexion

 

Have you worked on your family tree at all?

Sometimes it's those distant cousins that can help fill in the gaps.

Probably wouldn't work too well for people in the midwest though
