Broken Shock Absorber?

Need the hive's help. Heard a bad rattle in my rear driver's side wheel well. Took a looksie and it looks like my shock absorber has popped off the stem, or out from under the housing there. I was able to manually put it back, but I couldnt thread it to anything, and then it pops right back out when I drive. Does someone have a fix or am I going to have to take it in. I'm not too savvy with suspension.

 

Shock is ruint. Replace in pairs or even better all 4 same day.

 

No fix for that other than a new shock. From the look of the outer shaft where it bolts on, it's been a while since the broke. Rear shocks like that are pretty easy to repair if you have some basic tools, a floor jack, and jack stand. Even if you don't, you can likely find a non dealer shop to replace it. You may want to do both while you're at it.

No idea. Have not hit any hard trails all summer so clueless. I guess Florida potholes are to blame.

 

Are you using leaf spring blocks or any other mods to your suspension?

if totally stock then I guess those are impressive potholes.

 

Ten minutes with basic hand tools and a jack.

 

I have the factory tacoma lift which is blocks, yes.

 

the trd lift kit comes with different shocks than that. that lift block topped out the shock hard enough it pulled it apart. lucky you didnt rip your brake line off if suspension drooped down far enough to do that without anything to limit it.

 

yea, this isn't the TRD kit, its a kit they had advertised in the lobby when I bought the truck.

 

Picture and measurement of that block size. That looks like a big block, then what comes with factory trd lift. Plus what deinzz said. Those don't look like trd lift shocks. Then like stock sport Hitachi shocks.

 

Is this the new rear shock delete?

 

That looks like a shock shaft extension to allow for a lift block. Am I correct?

 

If you are planning on keeping the lift then you need longer shocks- whoever installed your kit should have known this and should help out to replace it if it’s under warranty. Don’t put regular shocks in as they can be damaged like this.

 

OP- check out 5100’s for the rear- they might be long enough, if not someone here will know!

 

then it isnt a factory toyota lift at all. just some random junk they probably got overcharged you for. is it a lift spacer up front too? if so then yea its straight junk.

 

think your right although ive never seen them used on these. unthreaded itself.
