Thanks so much for the info. I had thought about using my impact driver to break that bottom bolt loose. But I'm wondering if I should make (have one made, that is) the tool you referenced. Do you have a pic of yours I can use for reference? Any other info such as tubing length, diameter, etc. will be greatly appreciated!

Sorry, but no pics. Tool I used belongs to a friend of mine and fellow FJR owner. I'm going to make my own though in the near future. All you need is a 1/2" drive 26mm socket, standard depth not deep well is fine. You need a length of metal pipe or tube with an inside diameter of slightly more than 1/2" and an outside diameter that will fit inside the FJR inner fork tube, roughly 1" should fit and about 28-24" long. Just weld the socket to your pipe or tube so you have a socket at the end of it. You're just creating a long reach socket to hold the damper when you unscrew the bottom bolt. On my 2007 I got lucky both times and never needed the tool. My 2014 decided to be more difficult.

Quick search and I found this. https://www.fjr-tips.org/maint/ForkSeal-BushingReplacement.pdf

    Includes pics of the tool

That’s interesting that the GPS front is loud, I don’t think the rear was loud, the adventures have a bit of a roar to them at 40+.
I had not seen those, very interesting looking.

On my lunch I ran over to the bike shop and sat on the Vstrom 800 DE, it’s not as comfortable as I was hoping, too little legroom.
Salesman put me on a KTM 890 and it was comfortable, but I don’t love the KTM maintenance, I saw a super tenere but don’t know anything about it, and then sat on the old reliable Vstrom 650.

Im curious how much more power the Vstrom 650 has vs the KLR, it’s comfortable, affordable, and lots of mods for them.

vstrom 650 has something like 30HP more than the klr 650

    that is a big difference

Super Tenere is a great all around ADV bike. Not perfect at any one thing but pretty damned good at a wide variety of things. I keep considering adding one to my garage but honestly have zero seat time on it myself. I have a bunch of friends with them and all of them love them. Reliable, low maintenance, tubeless tires, and Yamaha's reputation. Newer models have electronic cruise control and there is an ES model with electronic suspension adjustment.

30HP and 7 LB/FT, probably wouldn’t feel the torque, but I’d definitely feel the HP and extra gear.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
Holy shit…who da hell is riding in this heat? I got on my quad and it felt like someone hitting me with a hair dryer!

    Wanna get your guys’ input…

im sure some of you recall my flat tire last week. Plug has been holding air fine, I actually forget I even plugged it at times. But I just noticed this in my tire today when looking at the plug…small metal piece embedded just below it. Not losing any air, so not sure if I should keep riding on it or replace it asap. The overthinker in me is telling me to replace it, while the lackadaisical side of me says that if I’ve been riding it this way with no issues, it’s probably fine.
