Yes I was pretty surprised also and I tried to avoid this and why I went through a Toyota dealer and payed a little more so this would not happen. Depending how the situation pans out I will normally give a business one shot to correct the problem. Fortunately the internet parts employee thus far is handling it well as he was very cordial and professional. Actually waved my 70 dollars shipping cost and will ship the new skid plate when it shows the return part was on the way back. So that’s cool I don’t have to wait for them to receive it. I was planning to put it on this weekend but unfortunately not going to happen. Well guess I’ll see how the rest of this deal transpires but so far so good.

Was a little worried about this kind of thing happening when I purchased mine through BAM. The only dings mine were from semi-sloppy treatment by UPS, as one of the bolts with a spacer on it had come loose from being locked into the plate itself during shipping and made a few marks.

I used a high lift floor jack to maneuver it in position for bolting, worked a treat. Took less than 30 minutes.

Since I don't have a good floor jack, I used 2 paint cans to hold the engine skid up while bolting it on. Worked well me as it was almost the perfect height w/ the stock suspension; feel free to laugh.
But now I get to take it off again and put the bolts back in w/ anti-seize. I heard enough to think that's a good idea; it's only been on for a month so I think it'll be easy.

Did you call the dealer and ask why they tried to make you pay full price for an item that was obviously used and damaged? half off

    Brand new.

That's totally unacceptable, id send it back also. What dealership is it from and let everyone, here know so none of us get stuck with crap from the dealership as well.
I want a new skid plate but don't want to go through that Nightmare.

Especially if full dealership price was paid.
I feel like I got a fairly good discounted price, and was a little worried about getting a banged up one, but all turned out good in the end.

Well, that's some bullshit. I'd be pissed, too. Like others have said, hopefully they make it right.

If you take out 1 bolt at a time, add anti-seize, reinstall, then do another...you don't have to completely remove ?

You could do that on the two rear-most bolts since they drop out, but you'll need to drop it to get the forward bolts out since they have sleeves to keep them in place. At least that's how ours is set up. You can see the four that have retainer sleeves in my earlier post and in the photo below.

Yup, that is actually the plan. And since I have the RCI skid the only spacers are in the back. It will probably take as long to gather/put away the tools and drag myself under the truck as it will to actually remove/replace each bolt.
