    Well we'll find out.........

I took the OEM bumper off in prep for installating an RCI armored bumper, and dropped the OEM spare while I was at it (in prep to relocate the spare hanger to put a 285/70 up there).
While I had everything out and enough room to sit up under the bed, I figured there wouldn't be a better or more opportune time with that much access to the exhaust again, so I went ahead and doed it:

I'm still working on the rear bumper lighting wiring atm, so have not installed the bumper nor started the truck yet.
Will take it for a cruise after I get the bumper on and see if I have any tone changes.

You are cutting your Toyota engineered exhaust out and replacing it with something else. Why?

Only the last section, in the last hanger that supports the section that juts right out under the quarter panel.

No, nothing else, it simply gets the exhaust above the spring hangers, so it's a lot less likely to catch on something or get crunched.

After 7 Easter Jeep safaris, 3 Rubicon adventures and countless smaller rock crawling or mudding trails, I've gotten sick of crunching exhaust and/or lower quarter panels.
The looks without that ugly blackhead looking tip is just icing.

    Engineered to meet standards.
Eliminating 2 bends in the pipe will increase the outflow.
The more free the exhaust gets out, the better.

You need some back pressure for most engines. The low output stock engines toyota uses in their Tacos wouldn't know the difference between a bone stock exhaust and one 5 feet shorter or 10 feet longer.

    "You need some back pressure"
The tacoma exhaust is focused on reducing emissions and noise.
    Not performance.

Please explain to me how some back pressure is needed.

I'm hoping for 0 more noise honestly.

From what I've heard, cutting the exhaust after the muffler has null effect other that not getting it hung up on rocks and such.

Will try driving it for the first time today or tomorrow after the armored bumper is installed.

The temptation to do this is so real lol. Anyone notice much change in sound? Seems like most people are not reporting excess fumes.

Just got the bumper on, and took the truck for a spin, post cut exhaust......

None. I know it's impossible, but it actually sounds quieter/more muffled than before.
Took it on the interstate, then let it idle awhile in my driveway sitting in the cab and no drone, no harmonics, no fumes, nothing.

Absolutely no offense to anyone else with one, but the bonus for me personally in cutting the exhaust (other than the main reason of not getting it crunched) was to be able to get rid of that awful bulbus black TRD tip. It also cuts down on the overhang weight of the exhaust that the muffler has to support.

    Cut away Id say.

Man, that setup looks like a good time waiting to happen. The bumper is clean! I like the low profile of it.

Love the clean and tucked up look without that exhaust sticking out!

I’m about to mod mine like this. What is the reason everyone doesn’t do this instead of the cut behind the rear axle. It’s exactly what the Trail Edition Tacoma does now so I can’t imagine it would honestly cause an issue.
