Watch the warranty date for the Spyder Headlights.... you'll likely be seeking to use the warranty as that date approaches... at least mine faded and started to haze over about 6 weeks post warranty date... don't expect any help from them after the date comes/goes!

Upon picking up some 12' long lumber, to finish up a fence project at our house while at lunch yesterday, I realized how much I wish I had ordered the long bed version of the truck back in the year 2005/6 and not this 5' 5" long short bed..... so after laying down the tail gate (so as to not lose the lumber out the back) and finding a spot to park at, which required me to drive over a concrete wheel stop.. I quickly realized that I should not have idled over that wheel stop with the back axle/tires... cause there was quite a bump and jump of the lumber... (think riding in the back of the school bus!)

But like a good Timex watch, and being this is a Toyota Tacoma, back home after work, and after unloading the lumber I discovered that in fact, back in that parking lot, i'd unknowingly performed the short bed box enlargement mod to full success!

    I'm just Lovin' it!

    Go ahead and Roast away....

I don't think the 6 foot bed would have helped this from happening. A trailer hitch bed extender may have though.

And for the shell, I used a paint scraper to carefully get between the old light and the mounting tape. Then used some goo gone to get rid of the residue and then polished and buffed the area

I carry 12' long metal bars, mostly 6061 aluminum, frequently in my long bed. This is why I always buy access cabs. I angle it as much as possible to minimize the overhang. I now put old rubber floor mats under the bed end and strap it down tight to the bed. I think this helps cushion the load. My path carries me over a bumpy road and a raised, fairly smooth, railroad crossing at 35-40 mph. Never caused any damage to my tailgate in 3 Tacos over 4.5 years. This does put nearly 7' of the load in my bed off the tailgate. Being metal is doesn't flex as much as lumber.20200120_122452.jpg

The only thing that might have helped not have this happen would have been to spread out over the width of tailgate. Don't beat yourself up too bad shit happens. If you want to replace I would look at just the metalshell thats whereit't bent. Here's that part # for around $400.00

I think it was made by Raider, but there's no badging on it. Wedge design, it's not the canopy I would buy, but it came with the truck.

I mean, also tailgate reinforcement panel or tailgate reinforcement cap, or both. When I hauled 16 foot poly deck boards it was on a reinforced tailgate with a hitch bed extender, no issues.

idk. My inner parts were bent underneath the plastic. They’re said to be weak. Outer skin dented. PDR shop fixed it for like $100. Installed a Relentless Fab tailgate reinforcement shortly after. Non ribbed, full wraparound, steel.

The woolwax™ Pro Gun normally operates at 70-90 psi. With the extension wands you may need to go to 110-120psi to push the coating thru that extra couple of feet. The gun is rated up to 175psi so it's never an issue.
Generally speaking any compressor that's adequate for spray painting will work for undercoating. For instance, some of the really small compressors at Harbor Freight say right on the box "not adequate for spray painting".

You will really like it . It's an awesome gun. Especially when using it with the extension wands. The Pro Gun has been the standard of the industry for almost 20 years. And it works great. But because the canisters are plastic, we can't pressurize them. So you are relying only on the siphon tube. It does a great job, but can be challenging with the long extensions.
The Supreme gun is a metal pressurized canister. It has a much greater velocity to push a coating thru the extensions. That gun come with a 36" 360degree wand. Plus other assorted extensions.

    read build thread
wiretapped my turn signal mirrors directly into the daytime running lights

works like you would expect. the orange tinge on the edge there is them working, its just washed out in the picture.

I left a few paragraphs in my build thread on post #380 with my thoughts about wiring this mod if anyone finds this on a search later and needs help for a 2nd gen cause most of the threads I saw were for 3rd gens and/or not very helpful.

Ran some junk over to the landfill, today. Of course, I put a nice, deep 6" scratch in the tailgate trying to load a
    big charcoal grill by myself.

    Grrrrr.

I see the future... me sweating my ass off rubbing out said scratch, tomorrow.

Gave it a wash and wax - first time using Chemical Guys products. I like the results!
    20230729_155412.jpg

Also replaced my headlights with some OEM TRD Pro headlights, installed Diode Dynamics fog lights, and swapped the grille.

Waiting on clearcoat to arrive before paint matching the shroud, but I couldn't wait to see it with the new grille and I had it off anyway...

I generally just crank the regulator to 85 psi and I've never had an issue with the wands being too hard to push. But it's good to know just how high I can get the pressure up to before it fails :D

a few things, and some vinyl....
I scored a deal on some 17" Fifteen52's and tires. The color wasn't my first choice, but if I don't like it after a couple weeks, it's nothing a can of spray paint can't fix!

Replaced shift knob, had window tint applied, installed tonneau cover & installed a bed extender.
Those wheels look awesome, too bad they don't make them in the 5-lugger pattern.
