Yes, you have to open the frunk to get to the batteries, same as on most ICE vehicles. ICE batteries need to be accessed once every 3-5 years for replacement. EV 12v batteries tend to last much longer since they don’t face large starting load demands and are essentially on a trickle charger constantly.

There was a dude towing a small utility trailer with two dirt bikes down the shoulder of I25 yesterday running on the bare rim. I figured he would pull off at the exit we were coming up on but no, he just kept driving down the shoulder at 60mph grinding the wheel away.

I noticed it's a much smaller battery plenty of room for it in the front fascia of the rivian, it would also be more convenient to hook up cables in that locations.

Luckily there was plenty of room at that charger location to drop the Rivian in front of three charging stalls. I'd hate to be the roll back driver for the customer who wants their EV that's locked up and won't go in to tow mode dropped off head first into the only open charging stall. Not responsible for damages, sign here please or I can't load your vehicle.

Wheel dollies, like Go Jak, solved this issue decades ago.

What are you going to do drop the car in the isle throw go jaks under it spin it around 90° and push it into the spot? That's a 8500 lb truck. I'd charge $5k plus milage for that.

7000lb, but still not a lightweight. You can also just load the truck rear up first on the tow truck if you’re expecting to have to drop it nose into a charger.

Sure if you can get turned around on the express way. That Tesla I saw the other day was smack dab in the middle of two exits, I can't believe they couldn't get off the highway even with a flat tire, it's not like they ran out of gas.

The same thing happens with any other car. It’s called catastrophic failure.

This. Mounting it underneath the bed would have been much better (as they state in the video).

    Why haven’t you???

If it cost the same as a Taco, with “refuel” time on par, and offered an extra cab 6’ bed. I would consider it. Oh and bump up the range while towing, 100-125 miles just won’t cut it. Can eke out roughly 320 miles towing with my Taco.

That’s like saying you want a Corvette with the price tag and fuel economy of a Honda Civic. It’s just not going to happen.

The R1S has been available for quite some time. The quad motor pricing has not gone down but they have released the lower tier dual motor versions at a lower price.

When are they shipping ? I was hoping to get one this year... but ended up leasing an IX instead, as Rivian was saying 2024 at the soonest. Hopefully availability will improve over time.

They R1S has been shipping to normal (non-employee) customers for almost a year now. The dual motors just started delivering this July.
