Yes, Toyota Factory Platinum Zero Deductible warranty. I’m just under 30k miles. My understanding is that the Toyota extended warranty has to be purchased inside of the 3 year/ 36k mile period.

I opted against the warranty at delivery. Could I still get the extended warranty for my truck after the fact and where ?

Yes, you can purchase from any Toyota dealership up until 36 months or 36,000 miles. Pricing will vary and is competitive. Right now, Jerry at Midwest is providing discounted rates and is recommended. IMG_6507.png

Got the same warranty (10 yr 100K Platinum Toyota warranty, no deductible) in September of 2022 for $1,360. Said no to my dealer's F&I guy because not only was their price outrageous, but since they are in the SE Toyota Distributor region they will not sell Toyota/TFS warranties. Got mine from Troy Dietrich from Toyota of Greenfield.

To the OP - extended warranties are basically insurance. You can choose to buy a policy and lay off the risk, or you can self-insure. Keep in mind that whether you purchase a Toyota warranty at the time you buy the truck or wait till some point later, it will always start as of the in-service date (date of first use) of your truck.

I decided decades ago to purchase quality and NOT purchase any extended warranties on any products. This has certainly been a cost savings for me.

with as much electronics and computers that are on these vehicles today, I just thought it made sense to buy the extended warranty. I plan on keeping the truck, a timing chain, cover, seal, or a leaking bypass coolant tube will be another reason.

OOF. I was just duped into paying $2500 for a 7year / 100k miles 'wrap' warranty with roadside assistance on a 2021 TRDOR w/ 30k miles. #1 - How necessary is this outside of the engine/tranny 'certified 7yr/100k' Toyota warranty, and #2 if if is advantageous - should I cancel it and find a better price?

    Thanks for any input.

I debated getting one. My dealer put on a “lifetime” powertrain warranty / lifetime oil changes for $700. Oil changes have to be at the dealer I purchased from. Originally they wanted $1500 but it is nationwide, yes 3rd party. I am pretty mechanically inclined so I'm kind of thinking of not gonna add on any additional warranty.

Not sure if the pricing/coverage are the same for a Toyota warranty on a CPO vehicle vs one you buy new as the original owner. Double-check before you cancel what you have.

Extended warranties are a personal choice. Two points to remember:

    1) There is Toyota's official Vehicle Service Agreement(VSA) know as "ExtraCare". If you decide you want coverage make sure you get that one. I can pretty much guarantee the one the dealer initially puts in front of you will be one from a third-party vender. They make more profit off those. Trouble is, they can go out of business. also, a servicing Toyota dealer has to honor ExtraCare. Not so much with the aftermarket contract. ExtraCare has an interest in keeping a current Toyota customer loyal. The third party contracts aren't preoccupied with that notion.

    2) a VSA is basically like insurance on you car and home, in that you can cancel at any time and get a prorated refund. you're not stuck with it if you have buyer's remorse.

The expenses most people fear are engine and powertrain related, and those have 5 year/60,000 mile coverage. The vast majority of contract holders don't incur repairs that cost more than their contract. But every now and then there's one customer who has their bank account saved by one.

Those extended warranties being offered by Amazon, Home Depot, and Costco on appliances and other goods are all administered by Allstate. That was the one insurance company that made me so mad as a Toyota Service Director that I threw them out of our store and refused to administer their claims.

I think the finance manager at the Toyo dealership lied to me, he said the CPO drivetrain warranty covered nothing past the engine and tranny. Specifically said it didn't cover the axles, diffs, transfer case etc. It seems those are covered not?

Its seems the CPO 100k drive train warranty covers any internally lubricated parts right?

IOW any 3rd party warranty is mostly just for 'technology' and electronics etc? And roadside assistance. Oh and I guess HVAC...

My 21 TRD OR doesn't really have much 'tech' outside of radar cruise control and the lane drift warning. If those went out I wouldn't care at all.

One of the sales mgr's also told me the head unit was vital as it had components that controlled many other systems, meaning no aftermarket radios could be used.

Just call Jerry and ask him if the warranty he sells will cover your used truck, if so cancel the one you bought and get a refund. Then buy one from Jerry for 1k less. Jerry was very helpful and will answer your questions. It would be a no brainer for me.

You have to be very careful regarding VSA coverage. If it specifically says a component is covered, you're good. If its excluded(or not even mentioned) then you have to assume it's not. Nothing the Finance Manager says matters, only the wording in the written contract . The Finance Manager has no power to amend or change a VSA.

Commissioned-based Sales people are typically paid on a percentage of the gross profit in a vehicle sale. Finance Managers typically have similar pay plans, but based on selling VSA's, paint protection, etc. That's why they keep you in that office for SOOO long, even if three other buyers are waiting. They have a very vested interest in seeing you buy a VSA. In their defense, it's usually the Dealer Principle (owner) who dictates which VSA contract(Toyota vs third party) they present to customers.

Now, with a CPO (Toyota Certified Used Vehicle) the basic warranty is limited to engine and trans(internally lubricated parts), nothing more. While it does offer some assurance that your purchase has something standing behind it, it's not anywhere near 100%. Toyota Financial Services (TFS) created an add-on service contract that a buyer could purchase to enhance the basic CPO warranty. This enhancement used to be priced pretty fairly, but I have no idea these days. While I'm not a fan of service contracts(actually, I avoid all contracts, even for phone), the add-on does have some merit, assuming the pricing is fair. This link should help.
    https://www.toyotacertified.com/con...y/brochures/2021_tcuv_warranty_supplement.pdf

Oh, I should mention Toyota loves abbreviations (VSA, TFS, TMS, DSPM, etc etc etc) If it happens to be an acronym too, well, that's just pure gold.
