I don't want a hybrid. I like the concept of the access cab, but I don't think the lack of the rear doors will make much of a difference for most XC buyers. There's still the DC which looks like doors are only slightly larger than the doors on the outgoing AC. I doubt if the rear coil suspension is much of an improvement over the leafs, maybe more articulation off road. There will be more components that will need upgrading on the rear link when lifting the truck. Toyota could bring the rear coil setup to an XC and build an OR version, the frame is already being shared and the wheel base is the same. Toyota obviously needed to keep the leafs on the lighter XC to accommodate a usable payload to stay competitive to the midsize fleetsale customer. Toyota can't afford to lose that market share, if they want to outsell GM and Ford.

People looking to be re-assured that their purchase of Gen3 is not going to be morally obsolete real soon..

Let me tell ya what is going to happen. You will soon notice that there are fewer and fewer Gen3s on the road.

    Eventually only

    1. enthusiasts who invested huge money and or time in upgrades of their Gen3 making them real offroad/overland vehicles and

2.those who bought very used Gen3 for cheap

    will keep driving them.

Whoever now wants to keep their stock vehicle for a long time will start to look like category #2. Since a lot of people do care about what they look like to their friends, family, neighbors, complete strangers, the majority will move on to Gen4 or other makes.

It's happened before with Gen1 and Gen2 and it will happen again with Gen3.. Such as life. Stop whining.

Noooo everything new will fall apart and be completely unusable! That’s what I have to tell myself to make sure I’m secure with the truck I have!!!!!

Man so much hate here. I for one am looking forward to the hybrid version. Having driven a 1st gen for 20+ years, i'm really looking forward to more power and better gas mileage!

Yeah I am tired of 12mpg on my 2.5 Gen.. I will definitely be kicking the tires pretty hard on the hybrid.. that said I am leery of all the flashy tech. toyota has been making turbos and hybrids a long time, that doesnt scare me.

…you do know the hybrid in the trucks does nothing for fuel economy, right?

That's a big ugly statement to make for 2 reasons. 1) We don't what the MPG numbers are going to be. You don't know.
    2) Having another engine in there does something to fuel economy.

I expect the Tacoma to be lighter than the Tundra. I believe the tacoma uses the same battery and motor as the Tundra. Therefor the electric engine should be able to move the tacoma a little easier and improve MPG a little more than it does on the Tundra.

Given that the Hybrid Highlander and Tundra didn’t gain much in the mpg department, educated guess is the Tacoma won’t either. Maybe even worse since a lot of people won’t keep their foot out of the turbo.

The electric motor is only there to give a little extra boost, not to gain fuel economy. Toyota has come out and said it for the Tundra, why would the Tacoma be any different? One of the biggest complaints of the current and past models is the mileage is either the same or worse than some fullsizes. Don’t see that changing even with a hybrid. Would love to be proven wrong though.

Only thing I am looking forward to spending money on is antique tags for my 2019 when that time comes.
I’ll admire the 4th gen’s, 5th gens, etc……, as I pass them on the highway.

    A few.
I think with the 4th Gen keeping a similar look to the 3rd Gen, the 3rd Gens will stay in style and not be outdated looking for a while going forward.

Gen 3 has a timeless looking exterior and reliability. However, I think the current 4runner looks outdated now, even the TRD pro model.

Gen 4 Tacoma has some big red flag (turbo, e brake), but it also has a lot more options that I want/need.

For starter, non-480p resolution 360 camera/multi-terrain camera, because this could be a game changer for solo off-roader. Available sway bar disconnects, disc brakes, coiled spring, suspension with reservoir, auxiliary switch ports, 14" screen, deeper bed, wider stance = bigger lift, better MPG, and the list goes on.

Some minor one includes great looking grill for all trims, unlike the current gen where only the Pro grill looks good. Easy DIY if you have a garage, which I don't.

Hang in there VietKinh - you only have another 230 days to go calling Uber before you can touch a Tacoma. By that time though you'll be looking at Ford Rangers and wondering if you can wait another few months for Tesla Cyber truck. But no you're not going crazy. Just a little off balance.

Funny enough, I had a deposit for the Cybertruck when it was first announced. Many though it was ugly, but I thought it was brilliant. I'll never visit Mars, but owning a Mars looking video would be a dream come true!

Ironically, despite still having that deposit, the Cybertruck is off my list because I moved to a cold state. Minnesota is the land of 14,000 lakes, so the Cybertruck in practice would be perfect---since it can float over water like a boat---use the bed of the truck as the deck of a boat for drinking and fishing!

However...electric vehicles lose 40% of its range in cold temperatures, and negative temperatures is pretty common here.

I think might as well go Tundra, I mean 4th gen Tacoma looks like Tundra with weaker engine
