If it wasn't for the big 3, we would have far more trucks or UTES in the U.S. More midsize trucks than you can even dream off. Just saw a Fiat truck that looked pretty interesting. Best part is that all these oversea trucks come with manuals and diesels.

I would not call it ugly but it looks sporty rather than trucky.. just too much flex for that tacoma engine under hood.

In my opinion the new design is filled with unnecessary plastic garbage so it looks sporty. Like plastic " chrome " bumper on my 23 tacoma, absolute joke. This is the case with all new trucks from all manufacturers thought for US market only. I think its just for money, if you can make truck that applies to both the people who actually USE the truck and those who just buy it for flex or whatever, you can sell to both that way. Just my personal opinion but doubt construction work, towing, throwing garbage around, going off road etc requires all that non sense sporty look.

I don't care if I sit in my truck with dirty boots or if I throw some metal parts inside it, wood etc , never cared for comfort either. If I did I would go buy Benz or something lol. I am a young dude but I don't care for sporty cars, I like trucks because capability, and toughness, just a car you can rely on as long as you take care of it. I am getting truck because I like SIMPLICITY. Less barking more biting, not other way around. I used to have 2003 4runner, gosh I loved that car, I could feel even the smallest pothole on the road, no noise canceling either, just a loud engine and a old truck! Sadly lost battle to rust, so I went with new 2023 Tacoma SR5 V6, truckiest truck in current modern market.

Hell yeah! My dad had a 1970 Chevy C-10, no lift, 2wd, whatever cheap tires he could afford, and the ugliest camper shell ever made on it. Homemade benches over the wheel wells that folded down into a bed and we “overlanded” the fuck out of that truck long before that silly word came into use.

Pretty sad when poster (VietKinh) says he's is going crazy waiting for the new 2024 Tacoma. Like a four year old waiting for Christmas in August, and then comes out with another post saying "Waited 8 years for a Taco...what another 3 more years?

Really - where do the find these clowns???

Ha! same with my dad except he had a Ford. When I was younger, my dirt bag camper was a ‘85 4Runner with an old futon mattress tossed in the back. Don’t really care for tents or sleeping on the ground. Went all over the place with that thing for mountain bike trips.

Have no pictures of those trips, we weren’t pic happy back then like we are today.

Cared more about the actual travel than what the vehicle was or looked like.

Edit: did find one of my ‘92, same futon mattress seen laying on the hood. Somewhere above Sedona.

Seems like the contest of who can make the ugliest truck has spread abroad too…

What is it with these giant cod piece grills?

The HiLux used to be somewhat humble.

Not that the older Hilux looked great the more subdued styling did look better. I wonder what impact if any fullsize NA trucks including the Tundra will have on midsize sales in Australia?

Yeah it wasn’t the best…just don’t like “in yo’ face!” styling. I like humble.

My Australian dirt bike bud says they love American trucks, just isn’t cost effective and the mpgs are horrid compared to what they have. There was a write up comparing a LC70 to a F250 in one of their magazines a few years ago.

You can “overland” without looking like a complete knob…

I’ll take a 1st or 3rd gen, 2nd gen looks a little like a bug with those big headlights and the fender flares, 4th gen is got too much going on from a line and design perspective

Even better would be just a 80s pickup, extra cab 4x4 with a 22re, in blue

40 years ago we used to sleep in the back of our trucks, some of us didn’t have shells, so we slept open air.

Nothing like a regular cab with a camper.

Nice! Almost identical to my setup. Should have bought a taller topper though, pickins were slim on Market Place. Lucky to find one at all.

Yet somehow, Ford can do it with a traditional bumper. Or at least used to up until this year.
