I sent my dad pictures of the new TRD Pro, and he told me I should get it. He is not a truck guy, but like myself, didn't see the need to get a TRD Pro over an Off-road in the current literation. However, the new TRD Pro is noticeably different looking than the TRD Off-road. It is 3 inches wider, so even its diameter is different. You can lift the new Off-road, but it will never be as wide as the Pro.

He told me to *pre-order it and he will give me an additional 10K, but then I told him it did not come in a manual :(.

There is no reason why both the top trim trucks don't come with a manual transmission.

If you can drive a manual, buy a manual. It is all about demand. There were enough manual buyers that Toyota was willing to bring the manual back for the 4th gen.

This and not giving manual in Xtracab...

Toyota doesn't offer a manual in the performance version of their trucks.

Get a F-150 Raptor instead it's faster and still no manual, or get a Wrangler Rubicon X it offroads better and you can get a manual. Plus neither of those have a hybrid power system getting in the way.

Ehh I prefer an auto. Been there, done that with the manual in trucks for 20+ years. Easier off roading to me in the auto but it's all preference.

Learned to drive on a manual. Owned several manuals and had a blast driving them when I was young. Then I grew up and stopped caring about it.

If your pops is giving out $10k I’ll take it for the TRD Pro.

The current 2023 TRD Pro comes with a manual though. I think the Gen 1 Raptor was the best looking, because it looked like a Baja racer than a truck. Too big for the off-roading trail that a Tacoma can fit through.

I only ever had one vehicle that was a manual, and it was 13 years old when I bought it (salvage title). And the pedals, clutch, and shifter were awful! I have never driven a new vehicle with a stick before. Vehicle would stall if you didn't switch from gear 1 to gear 2 within 5 seconds. Still put 66,000 miles in 4 years. Got 13 mpg total lol. It was a 02 Honda CRV.

I really hate driving an automatic. My dream sport car is the Nissan GTR, but I would never buy it because it doesn't come with a stick (even if I could afford it someday). I'm a car enthusiast, so any vehicle that doesn't have the option of a stick is off my radar. Hopefully, that doesn't come off as snobby. I just love stick.

I could have gotten a used FJ Cruiser (Voodoo Blue) in the past for 12K (in 2013), but I could not see myself driving a vehicle without a stick. Because once I get older, I won't be able to enjoy a stick any longer.

I don't like taking my dad money unless it is something I truly want. If the Pro came in a manual, it would be a no-brainer, as I wouldn't need to do after-market lift. While it is better to wait for at least the 2nd year of a new generation, that would be 2 to 3 years of missing out on off-roading fun. Time is more valuable than money.

Otherwise, I completely agree with you.

Pro is hybrid only so that’s why no manual.

also the Pro isn’t 3” wider because of the body or frame. It has wider plastic fender flares and more offset in the wheels. Both are things very easily changed.

It’s doable for sure. But Toyota isn’t doing it.

    Itz JDM tyte, yo!
Meh, the TRD Off-Road is enough, and I'm happy to see it becoming offered in the base model SR trim level. The TRD PRO is pretty gimmicky to me.

They should offer it in XtraCab though.
