just a couple of things tbh
I did try what you said and got the boots wet before I rode and it loosened them up a bit more which is good I’ll have to do that so I can bend more

I was half a squid today. Rode the bike into work, but on weekends and nights I get to wear shorts. Had the helmet, jacket, and gloves on. I haven't found any boots that will fit and I'm not really worried about riding pants. Gotta say, the natural air conditioning was nice, but I really want to get some riding boots.

Installed something on the monkey today that added a real 5mph to the top and was not engine power performance.
All I had to do was install this windscreen from pyramid plastics out of the UK. It was 216 shipped. It did raise my top speed, the paint and plastic are good, the windscreen is puig ,the mounting brackets are cheap and could have been done better to reduce vibration movement of the fairing. But overall I like it for what it does. They do come color matched if you like (which most do) Will look more at home after I do some more black out of the bike. Here are some pics.

I actually need to listen to my advice. My ride today was good for the boots. I still need to get them wet. And they squeak like crazy haha. Par for the course though

What's the maintenance interval like on the Super Ten? Fuel economy/range on a tank? There's so little info on this thing, but it kind of looks like it's an older design that's bulletproof without all of the newest bells and whistles of stuff like BMW or KTM. I just know very little about it and nobody seems to have done reviews. I've found a few videos on yootoob that aren't generic robo-reader bot crap.

Chose the super tenere cus it checked all of the criteria I had
    • HP/Tq (needed to not feel anemic to my old Honda 919 which had ~110hp and ~70ftlbs)
    • Features (cruise control at a minimum, electronic suspension is a pluss)
    • Ease of maintenance (shaft drive - 8oz of gear oil every other oil change, and literally recommended to use standard Rotella T4 15w-40 - so oil and filter changes are ~20$)
    • Parts availability
    • Reliability
    • "ADV" Bike for that upright taller seating position that was mostly going to be used on the street
All of the above at a price that wasnt going to hurt like a brand new bike or an exotic limited me on choices quite a bit. I have ridden friends KTM 1290 adventure bikes and while they are amazing from power and electronics package, they are just too high strung (maintenance costs, electronics wackiness etc) and didnt meat the parts availability criteria (i have had friends have to wait for months for parts from KTM). Widdling things down i ended up being heavily torn between the Africa Twin and the Super tenere, but to get the features i wanted in the AT (mainly cruise, but electronic suspension is nice) the price was easily 20-25% more for similar miles on a used bike and shaft drive was quite compelling.

I had never ridden one, never even threw a leg over one or seen one up close, decided to gamble on a flight 1200mi north of me in Oregon then ride the Super Tenere home along the coast of CA, best decision ever. Had 22k miles on it when I bought it. Got it home after the ride home and went through every pivot point / grease point and tbh it needed nothing but its nice to have the peace of mind knowing that suspension pivots and steering stem are good, valves are in spec and new sparkplugs etc. Its not the easiest to work on but it doesnt need much work.

Is it the fastest, nope. But it does make more hp / torque than the africa twin, though not as much as more exotic offerings. The stock tune is uh... quirky, factor sending in your ECU to Anthony from the super tenere forms if you get one (~265$). You will want a 2014+ as a few mechanical changes were made and features added - though guys have gone 100k+ miles on the gen 1 with minimal work. Ergos as with any bike need to be delt with. A 50$ madstad windshield bracket knockoff and 20$ winglets from ali express fixed 90% of windscreen issues, as did a pair of solid bar risers.

The engine is a very smooth parallel twin, mechanically noisy, but once moving above 5mph you dont really notice the noise (the aluminum skidplate on mine doesnt help the noise reflecting back at you though as with any bike). With its wide handlebars and low slung weight above 5mph the overall porkieness on paper of the bike disappears, I am 100% faster in the malibu canyons on the Super Tenere than i ever was on the 919 mainly due to suspension travel that eats up the less than ideal roads - also you can be ham fisted with throttle and brakes and abs / tcs does its thing (though i dont like to lean on those too much - it is nice knowing they are there).

I have never ridden long distance two up, neither had the GF, we just completed 750miles of two up riding through all sorts of twisty mtns in northern CA without issue.

Needless to say I love the bike. I enjoy it so much that I have unfortunately stopped riding the grom around town! With the anthony tune if you keep it under 75 on the highway you are looking at ~40-42mpg, ham fisted in the canyons 30-35, light cruising 55ish 2 up sight seeing in the mtns at elevation averaged 45-50.

What do y’all use for cargo nets? My dad gave me this one, first time using it and it feels kinda flimsy, but gonna roll with it and see how it works.

Thank you for all that excellent info! I drool over all the bikes, but the Super Tenere just doesn't have the same kind of exposure as so many others. In a few years, when I might be in the market for more bike than the CB500X, I'll have to keep it in mind.

Honestly not sure why, maybe cus it just doesnt win in any category vs other offerings so it never made any headlines. I like it it does everything I need and then some.

Install complete. Sounds so much better, I'm stoked! Considering removing the dB killers that came installed in the mufflers though.
