You should spin rifle barrels. There’s so few good machinist that gunsmith these days.
You could probably make a killing as a side hustle.

Really have to establish yourself too though

I get my barrels through Marc Soulie; he's built record holding rifles as Spartan Precision

You'll find him in Sniper's Hide

You do, but the main idea was that less people have interest in machining for firearms.

I know Marc. I thought he was in Idaho now.

I deal with Chad at LRI mostly for my PRS stuff, and I have tried to do a few myself that came out alright. I’ve worked with a lot of big name smiths over the decades.

I even use to go to Gary Schneider, who made the barrels for the M40s, who I’ll probably go back to after leaving a few things in that community.

Truth be told I've been out of the game for years now.

But yeah I did a lot of PRS, and just stuck with ELR for awhile. Sad thing is, I got a ton of fire arms and my nods in storage :bananadead:

Haven't shot or reloaded my own for awhile :anonymous:

I dealt with Marc when he was still in San Jose.

Lol I still have primers, even after selling well over 100,000 of them.

Made a lot of money selling the Federal Gold 210M and 215M when I cleared out some of my storage. Some of that cash went into buying our new house actually

I bet the advances since the seventies have been so very great.

Your post brought those memories back I had not thought of this for a very long time.

    Completely left my mind.

Many shafts were brought back within spec.

Yeah, we ain't using Metco wire guns no more lol, Eutectic high pressure, exotic powders. I can maintain.0001 on bearing fits with mirror image. Not many are aware of it. It's much more popular overseas

I worked for a German owned or involved company .

I remember the Eutectic name from those days similar setup but quite different after all 45 years ago or so.

@Rachelsdaddy is this called metal spraying? We use to have seal areas done on Dunham-Bush refrigeration compressors when we would rebuild them. This would bring the dimensions back to factory specs & take care of any wear / scratches causing the shaft seal to leak. Unfortunately this didn't work on Mycom or Howden compressors because the pressure leaked through the metal spray causing a refrigerant (freon, ammonia, etc) leak. We had to chrome (this was industrial chrome) those seal areas but took longer because the chrome would only grow .001" per hour and had to be ground / polished to size.

Precisely, normally for vacuum applications I use either Bronze or ceramic, those pumps are fussy. Plating is ideal. I've also repaired the seal areas with hardened ground polished sleeves machined for .0002 interference, warmed up and set w/ loctite 609. Customers prefer this because they are replaceable, although I haven't had to yet

Despite the heat and humidity, I cut a sign this evening. It's for the daughter of a friend who has a drink stand at local craft fairs.

She drew it up in some paint program and it wouldn't convert to anything I could use so I had to draw it from scratch. Good thing I wasn't trying to do it for money. Her dad is a really good guitar player and teacher and is trading me some lessons in exchange.

There will be a 1" gap between the layers. She is going to paint gold and green, with the background for the lettering in black.

I cut and welded on some small 16 gauge brackets to stabilize the forks on my tractor. When I drive with them folded up, they tended to wobble side to side. The odd shaped one is to clear some hydraulic lines for the FEL.

Oops, lead-ins on the wrong side of the cuts :anonymous:. Oh well, it's a tractor.
