There are all sorts of crazy crash regulations now that prevent automakers from making tiny, lightweight vehicles.

Meh. The Tacoma has not gotten any bigger in 3 generations, nearly 20 years. Id say it’s pretty stable.
That said, I agree there is room in the market for a smaller / cheaper truck

Stout wouldn't be a real truck regardless. It would be a unibody. Not to mention, Stout is an awful name for a truck imo.

Nah, the 1 gens feel smaller bc they are about 3" narrower than 2 and 3 gens. Also a little shorter. Not like a jump from a midsize to a half-ton, but to say tacos are the same size as 25 years ago is a little misleading.

    3 generations = 2nd, 3rd, 4th. 2005-2024 or nearly 20 years. Yes gen 1 was a bit smaller.

The Stout is what started it all, perfect name for a truck. Stout means strong, and in some cultures it is burnt bitter beer. Nothing wrong with unibody. Jeep XJs are uni, and are plenty capable. Unfortunately highly doubtful the Stout (if it truly happens will get coil spring solid axles like the XJ)

The kicker is the 1st Gen inside bed dimensions are roughly a smidge bigger (about an inch) than the 2nd 3rd Gen, even though being a smaller truck.

I thought Stout as in the beer Stout? I think a good name would be the Toyota Scout pickup truck. Scout vehicles are often light duty and small & nimble to get in and out behind enemy line.

Scout already exists and is probably Trademarked; Stout on the other hand was already a Toyota model.

That one is a Scout, Toyota had a small pickup called the Stout.

Yes, stout is a beer…which was made by mistake if you know the history of beer, they burned a batch…and it turned out that people like it….at least that is the story I was told.

Scout: Shakerhood beat me to it.

Stout was was the original name before they were called HiLux.

    That actually looks really cool!

    Wow, I had no idea!

Wish we could get both the Hilux and Tacoma in the U.S like down south in Mexico.

Don’t think they do the diesel HiLux in Mexico, when I lived in Tucson, my neighbors brother up from Mexico had one, had the 4 cylinder gasser in it. It is cool, but honestly not that much different than the Taco, unless you look at the frame. They do share a lot of the same components, and now built on the same platform.

    Guinness Stout!

Annnnd in other news, VW of all companies are bringing back the Scout. International was the original. Which do find that a little odd, since Scouts don’t have quite the following as a Jeep Wagoneers, Land Cruiser, Blazer/Suburban, Bronco, etc.

As much as I like vintage vehicles, that isn’t on the list. Maybe a restomod version and I could live with it.

Yes! And the lack of driving skills. The RAV4 loner we had….good lord all the nannying devices on it. Like it was designed for absolute complete morons.

How about learning to drive better?
