At least it has six gears and a semi-updated V6. The 2024 4Runner is indefensible.

LOL. Which is the faster turtle? The 3rd gen spun its tires in both runs, BTW.

Something i hate the most about the 4runners when i get in and drive my gf's 4runner the the arm rest in the door panels. The arm rest is too low, and the top of the panel where the window is, is too high, my arm is never in a comfortable position. My arm would be more comfortable right in the middle of both those spots. Tacoma armrest on the door panel is in the perfect spot.

Be curious how much of that is from engine alone … prob the same 250 ish torque plus 200 from the small ev motor

100% happy to be back in a Tacoma, although I do regret trading the 2021 for the 4runner. Lesson learned.
Of course, to each their own.

I drive a 2G for work on occasion, and my 3G. 2G is a dog and whining down the highway in 5th gear at 3000RPM sucks no matter who you are. Toyota didn’t “knock it outta the park” with the 3G, but it certainly is a step up.

I was looking at Bronco Raptors to see what they are marked up to 120 140, might have been higher than that.

Probably from the ev motor, it will be interesting to see if 465 will be what that drivetrain produces.

    Itz JDM tyte, yo!
The Tacoma having a bed (obviously) and having a higher towing capacity rating is the reason why I chose it over the 4Runner.

Also, I'm really not a fan of automatic smaller trucks/BOF SUVs. Personally I'd just get a V8 full-size truck at that point.

Those are some pretty badass soccer moms driving those suvs with real midsize truck engines flying by you on the interstate while the 3.5 struggles to keep up shifting up and down like a mad man trying to find the correct gear lol

I've got both. Both have their place.
Tacoma is more fun to drive.
    4Runner is more comfortable.
Rear seat is barely usable in the 4Runner.
Rear seat is UNusable in the Tacoma.
    Agree about the engines.
I might prefer the 4Runner if it weren't for my need of a truck bed at least once per week.

I've never driven any Tacomas besides my own so I don't know how it compares to previous generations.
A buddy in college drove a 2nd gen 4runner and it seemed pretty cool. I liked the 'sturdiness' of how the ride felt. His parents had a 4th gen 4runner which also felt nice, as a passenger, never drove it myself.
I test drove a 2020 4runner when I test drove my 2020 Tacoma, because I was on the fence and open to either. I liked the ride of the Tacoma and it reminded me of the 'sturdiness' I remembered from my friend's old 4runner. Then drove the 4runner and the ride felt too squishy. Too floaty/bouncy, like a bloated GM product.
I liked the interior space of the 4runner. It definitely has more spacious back seats, but 99% of the time it's just me driving around and maybe 1 person sitting shotgun. I've had someone in the back maybe 5 or 6 times in 3 years.
But what really sealed the deal was turning a corner and punching it on the way up a long hill. In the Tacoma I downshifted to 2nd through the turn and had immediate power to accelerate up the hill. While in the 4runner it stayed in some higher gear and took way way too long to decide to downshift as I tried to accelerate.
I know that's more of a manual vs automatic thing. If the 4runner was actually available with a manual maybe I'd be driving one of those today instead. But like OP, I greatly prefer the driving experience of my MT Tacoma vs the auto 5th gen 4runner.

My 23 SO 6MT was $48.5K with D&D. This included paint $425 and bed light $149. Base MSRP without options and D&D was $46.6k.

Ain’t price increases a bitch? Nothing like Ford has done. I hope they lose market share for the bullshit they did.

If and when the time comes for my to get new, I'll take a look at the 4Runner. I've always liked the look.
