Again, thank you all for watching and giving helpful hints.it really feels good to have a place to post my work among like minded individuals.
My next big project is a doozie.
I have a dining room table that is 92X40. The top is crap but the base is good. We have one big room that is our kitchen, dining room and living room so you can see that table all the time.
After the wedding, I am taking the table apart, burning the existing top and refinishing the base.
The new table top (walnut) will consist of three boards that are 2" thick and 92" long. Each board is 13 1/4 wide. The two outside boards are live edge on the long side. The middle board is joined to width. Already have paid for the boards. I will bring them here, biscuit them and then.... They go to a shop that can plane and sand 39" of board. Once done, I will use c channel to reinforce the top and provide mounting to the base. This is exciting and daunting at the same time. This will be my wife of 40 years Christmas present and will be beautiful, I hope! I will post pics throughout. Thanks for reading! I will finish it of course. I think that is my strength, finishing.

This will be a cool project.
About how much will the table top weigh? :benchpress:

I know almost less than nothing about woodwork, due to the type of service does a table use a "harder" finish than a picture frame for example?

Do a quick Google image search for wooden wedding signature signs or something like that. You should be able to gauge the number of signatures that will fit on a certain size piece of wood to give you a better idea if you have a big enough piece of wood. Not everyone will sign who attends and some will sign bigger and some smaller. An image search should offer a realistic gauge of how many signatures will fit.

Here's another random thought, if you have access to a scanner and/or laser, could you photo copy their signatures and use a laser to burn them back into the piece if something out of your control happens to the piece. If it was an heirloom piece with sentimental value, I'd sleep a bit better knowing that at least the signatures were saved.

It depends on the finish. The table will have the same one as my bowls. A finish is only as strong as the surface beneath it.

I want to expand on your statement in a broader sense if I may. I think one of the problems with the world today is the youtubes and google searches of the world. Maybe I'm different, but if I have an idea, the last place I go is the internet. I want my ideas to be, my ideas, and not influenced by others. I think I am in the minority for sure though. However, if I need additional knowledge on how to do something, the first place I go now is the internet. I searched google the other night on making stain out of walnut shells for example. I could do a series of tests and trial and error, but I spent five minutes and found a great way of doing it. I love the internet for that. I do not love the internet when it comes to innovation or new ideas.

I may not have been clear. I was not suggesting that you search the internet for ideas on what to create but more to see how many signatures typically fit on a given size piece of wood so you could make sure it was big enough to hold all the signatures needed.

Here's one I can buy for $79.95 that is similar in size to the one I built. Take out the Congrats, Love yous and the all the bests and you have a lot of room I think.

How about this... I will post a pic of it after all the signatures and after the polyurethane. I got this. ;)
The reason it is this size is the bride requested it be as small as possible so they can hang it on the wall themselves. So, small and light were two functions of the design.
If I had complete freedom, I would have made it much bigger and used a tripod mount. But, the customer is always right and I will make a small handwritten sign, explaining what it is and how to sign it. Jackie has already told me that, after it is finished, it will be posted to her social media page for everyone who signed it to see.
