What else does the RangeSensor do?

    Hey Folks:

Just got my 07 back from Toyota and left my $670 with them. It turns out that the Pigtail on the Engine Wiring Harness was not making the proper connection to the Trans. Range Sensor (Thus the starting problem and the need for a new engine wiring harness). Now the No. 1 Pin at the Starter Relay is powered and the truck starts reliably. Trouble is the system still shows a Check Engine Light (P705) after driving a mile or so. What could that be about?
I bit the bullet and bought the Wiring Diagram Book. It shows the Sensor circuit going to the back-up lights, and the Dash Cluster as well as a few other places that I can't figure out.
I also noticed that the light showing D and 4 on the console selector was not lit up, and that the trans no longer automatically downshifts when you apply the brakes on a hill. Any thoughts???

It goes to the following systems below.
However, I don’t think your issue is that complicated. It could be as simple as poorly adjusted range sensor.

So they replaced the whole transmission harness?

Th P0705 is when the PCM detects no signal from any terminal or a signal from 2 or more terminals at the same time from the Transmission Range Switch.

    P0705.jpg

You can check all the signals from the switch by backprobing connector PB on the junction box behind the glovebox.
Each pin should be at battery voltage with the shifter in the respective position, the rest should be at or near 0v.

    Pin 5 (Green/Black) Park
    Pin 6 (Red) Reverse
    Pin 8 (Blue/White) Neutral
    Pin 3 (Blue/Black) D & 4
    Pin 1 (Yellow) 3
    Pin 7 (Red/Yellow) 2 & 1

    Hey Folks:

Yes, they replaced the Engine Wiring Harness. A new pigtail soldered in place of the old one would have worked but, none were available. Today, Toyota adjusted the trans cable under the console and tweeked the Range Sensor a bit and......all is well. I suppose that thru time the cable to the trans from the console shifter stretched or....something but, she's perfect now. What amazing machines.
In ten days the wife and I head out to the cool passes on Colorado's Million Dollar Highway. Can't think of a better vehicle to do it all in. Thank you again to all who helped with my problem.

    Hey DM:

The photo you sent showing the PB connector behind the glove box was a revelation to me. Could have saved me lots of time. I'm having a bit of trouble following tho. You state that the wires from the Range Sensor are on various pins at PB but, pins 3,5,7,8,and 1 seem to be vacant and I cannot see the colors of the wires you mention. Am I reading things wrong?

That picture is from my truck, mine is a manual so those wires are not present on mine.
They will be populated on your truck since it's an automatic.
