I was at this event(Geneseo Air Show) when this happened on June 3rd this year. Heavy crosswind nearly got em but the pilot was able to catch it just in time.

About 8 or 10 years ago, my buddy made a $450.00 "Donation" and went for the ride of his life in a P-51 south of Peachtree City, GA.

He wanted to take his camera, but the pilot told him IF he wanted some "super cool flying" ... he had to leave the camera behind for NO

flight documentation ...

 

Every good pilot knows that those maneuvers always start with “transponder - off”.

When I was working at a GA airport awhile back the local FSDO had a report of a low flying aircraft that they investigated. Someone near the location of these super cool maneuvers ended up taking photos of the plane and handed them over. Needless to say the pilot’s license was pulled.

 

I’ve played the game of see how close you can get at low level inside a TRSA before hearing yourself called out as traffic advisories to other aircraft. Or you get to hear the advisory to someone else along the lines of “traffic at 3 o’clock, type unknown, airspeed and altitude changing, maneuvering erratically.

 

Operating just inside the lines of "I have a number for you to call, prepare to copy"

Nah, it’s all legal.

Another fun one is when you get traffic advisories to acknowledge them with “roger, radar contact, 4 miles southwest” because you already have seen them in your own radar.

Damn. Just found out Jim Tweto died.

 

That is a bummer. I used to watch him on the TV show and he seemed like a very good pilot and likeable guy. RIP

There's a decent chance those A models are still flying. With the exception of three aircraft all of our Deltas are Alpha rebuilds. Oldest one we have was originally built in 1983 and most are late 80's A models. Some of the first Echo builds are Alpha to Delta to Echo rebuilds as well, though most of those are late 90s end of production run Alphas.
