Good Morning Porch Folks. A long extended weekend upstate. Had the daughter and 3 grandkids and 2 dogs up. The wife and I spent an extra day relaxing after they left. Went to Knobles Amusement park on Saturday and had a good time watching the kids have fun (I am not much for the rides anymore.) Had some range time and burnt up some ammo. Shot the p320 M18 for the first time and it is a good shooter but the Stoeger 9C is still one of the best ones I have for accuracy and trigger. Left the park and stopped for dinner (cloudy and looked like rain) and while we were eating, It rained in buckets full for about 30 minutes and the sun came out. Storm managed to cool things off a bit.
Home due to a scheduled PT appointment this afternoon.

    Have a great day folks.

'57 was a good year ! I still can't believe I'm 66 myself or the fact I met a woman that's put up with me 45 years + 1 and she looks better than I do! She's 4 years older than I am and sill has as sense of humor after putting up with me.

I got to ask knowing your from Alaska does that sky line get that from the time of the year were in. I was in the Villages 6 yrs ago visiting with a guy that went to Alaska just to say he golfed at midnight with long hours of daylight. It was on his bucket list. We were a at pizza place that had long tables everyone sat at to eat.

The radio news this morning saying it's a "super moon." Supposed to be time of year moon closest to earth ... happens again tonight they're saying. Suspect it's amplified (of sorts) by how far north we are. What do I know? ... I put boxes on airplanes. ;) I'll see can I get more pics tonight. Best I can do. :notsure:

Like I said my bride still has a sense of humor left, I had to wake her up to show her, after all I had I was awake for a nature call.

    Morning all:

Great pic. of a kid fishing in the pond Harry, hope the bailer is back in working order shortly.

Man, that pork really looks good Tom! :hungry:

:annoyed: I need to replace a part in the furnace that I do have in stock, think it's called an orifice plate, problem is that when I go to replace it I may need to also replace a 6 1/2" ID short tube liner if it gets damaged in the process. Called Bethlehem Dynatherm Biolers to see if they had any of those tubes in stock and left a message, no return call yet!
They may not even have the part, and if I rip it apart and need it, the furnace will be out of commission indefinitely!
I don't know if I could mold a tube that would hold up by making a mold and using castable refractory cement, the original tubes were made out of a hard ceramic like material, and the replacement tubes were made out of a much softer asbestos like material.
SO, the options if I need that tube are, just replace the tube if available, buy a retrofit burner that doesn't use the inserts, or replace the furnace, I need to talk to the person that I called, they know these furnaces inside and out and can provide me with any info. that I need.
Maybe I'll get lucky and still be able to get the tube, but I need to find out if it's still available, might have to just keep calling until I actually get to talk to someone! :(

:pccoffee:Good Morning Porch Pals & Sue! Happy August! DANG! Great looking pork (as usual), Tom @95SLE . And welcome back Ken @johneman .

Yep, SuperMoon again tonight, for @MQQSE and everyone. Was big and bright last night, but I thought there was a sliver missing. We get two this month I understand.

Nothing much on the notepad for today, so maybe I'll do just that. Was 105* when I finished watering pots and hanging out in the pool. That's still too hot to just float.

Yup, 1957 was a great year, my wife and I both hale from that year as well. That said, we ain't got nuthin' on your 45 years (congratulations by the way); we were both confirmed "singles" until we met when we were 35 and got married a year later, so we're only coming up on our 30th anniversary.

We need the rain but............. badass monsoon storm here last night, haven't heard how much water we got. Trees down - one on a house in the neighborhood. Cool this AM but I'll bet we get some serious humidity as the day goes on and the sun gets to work. A lot of lightning but I haven't heard of any wild fires - yet. Power was out for 3 hours.

    I am laughing at those.

Oh, Chubbyemu on YouTube has taught me to toss out old pasta! I have no sense of smell, so I eat food that has gone bad.
At least my tongue can feel fuzzy things (spit it out, rinse with water, spit, and toss food).

Losing one's sense of small and taste sucks! I got mauled by a 150 pound dog two years ago and was so heavily concussed I woke up in the ER 30 hours later; I haven't had smell or taste since then. Funny thing about smell, there are a few benefits to not having any, you know, driving by a dead skunk in the middle of the road on a hot July day, "Nope, can't smell that!" Meanwhile, everyone else in the car is gagging.

My son has no sense of smell. I worry about what he eats as his fridge is always packed with left-overs. I suspect he's developed an iron stomach and a very healthy gut biome. I hope his two little ones are developing an iron gut as well. We don't know if they can smell yet. Their mother uses "essential" oils on the poor little guys so that may have damaged any ability to smell that they might have had, too.

I'm kind of torn on the ability to smell. I feel bad for my boy when there's fried chicken on the table, or something nice on the wind... but I envy him when in a candle aisle or am downwind of a skunk.

One day, when he was pretty young, we were in a candle aisle in some store and he was reading labels... and he got this wistful look on his face and said, "Oh... I bet this whole aisle smells so good." and his face was so downcast and sad. It really wrenched my heart. But then there were the times when we were driving down the road and passed a skunk, and we belted out the "Dead Skunk in the Middle of the Road" song and he would laugh as we gagged.

A small part of my tomato crop I just picked. Early Girl and some small salad tomatoes. I have 3 plants that I bought and 6 that are volunteers from last year. Love fresh picked tomatoes that actually have great taste as compared to the ones in the store that taste like cardboard.

I was just on line killing some time and I researched some prior properties/real estate I owned. I think the world has gone crazy. The first home I ever bought back in 1975, my very first home was a 3 bedroom 2 bath rancher , built in 1963, 1100 square feet, I bought for $35,300. It sold a couple months ago for…………….. $1.3 million. Other homes in close proximity are selling for between $1.2 to $1.7 million. I’m blown away, I can’t even speak. That is just insane. I don’t know how anyone in California can afford to buy a home. Especially the young and first time home buyers. I got into that home with $1500 down and my monthly payment was $350 per month. At first things were really tight with that big monthly payment of $350. The world has just gone insane.

BLT!!!! But your salad sounds yummy, too.

Sister and I were looking at an old house we lived in as teenagers..... House has been completely renovated and enlarged and is worth $2.6 million now  It was nothing like that when we lived there... But yeah, prices are definitely out there
