No it's not lol. Direct injection, Atkinson cycle and the cleaning cycle alone is a HUGE difference. Both motors also have very different issues.

Oh trust me. If the truck is at Dublin Toyota, you can bet your Calvin Kleins there's a hefty dealer markup.

    Yeah.
I don't consider minor adjustments to fuel delivery and tweaks to valve timing as major differences.

Than why does the 3.5 have more engine problems than the 4.0? The atkinson cycle is very different than how the 4.0 operates.

Before everyone loses their minds over this comment, go look at the 4runner forums. You don't see any engine issue posts.

Agree. It is the same design with reduced stroke, updates cam profiles and phasers on the exhaust and a decade old d4s system.
Not to mention fks variant was not the 1st with Atkinson cycle.

This doesn’t mean anything in terms of quality. Of course its gonna have higher sales its a pickup truck. Pickup trucks are popular in the US. Most people buy a Tacoma because of the record and name that was given to it from the Toyota pickup, 1st and 2nd gen Tacomas. The 3rd gen was not on par in quality with its older models. People blindly bought a 3rd gen not knowing of all its issues and just because of the Tacoma name. The 3rd gen Tacomas are not junk they are just not the same quality or refinement as some older model Toyotas.

End of story? What story? What does this data prove at all?
    Some people prefer trucks more?
Some people buy a cheaper vehicle than a more expensive one?
The Taco cult is more brainwashed then the 4R cult? (The actual truth)
The 4R has more competition (highlander/rav4/etc) in the Toyota line up than the ONLY mid size pick up they sell?
Tacos are more likely to be fleet vehicles than a 4R?

If sales numbers prove how good a vehicle is, the F150 is by far the best vehicle on the market.

You will see a blown 3.5 here and there based purely on the huge amount of them out there. End of story.

Personally, I feel like my 5th gens build quality is so much better than my tacoma. I’ve had two 3rd gens so far and both have been kind of disappointing. My 22 is a great truck, but it probably won’t be in the stable for too much longer

    Yeah.
Well, we seem to have folks in here that are basing their statistics off of the number of internet forum posts they have seen. So there's that.

Yeah me too. My brother has 4R. I drove his 4R a few times.. Not too bad. I told my brother that mine is longer than his 4R.. My truck is barely fit in his garage about an inch space between bumper and garage door. His 4R has about 12" space between the bumper and garage door.

So I got 3rd gen Tacoma.

So are you saying length is better than girth and quality? I better ask the "Hub" experts :anonymous:
