    Hi Guys,

I have been having an issue with my tacoma's auto unlock with the door handle. I will put my hand in the door handle area and have to wait 2-3 seconds before it would unlock. It used to do it instantly. The issue started a few months back after taking my truck to the mechanic to get a separate issue fixed. While it was there, it blew a fuse and would not start. While trying to find out why it would not start the mechanic did disconnect the battery. Turns it it wouldn't start because of a blow brake light fuse, which was fixed. But ever since then the door handle would not instantly unlock the doors.

I also started to notice a delay in other things. For example, it takes a second or two to change songs when I hit the button on my steering wheel. I am also noticing a delay on throttle response, when I press on my gas pedal, in traffic for example, my truck wont accelerate so I keep pressing, then after a few seconds it jumps and accelerates pretty hard. I have a KDMax Tune so this really shouldnt be happening.

When looking into this a few months back I saw on a thread someone mentioned it may be a grounding issue from mods. For some reason I can't find that thread any more. I have a ditch lights, light bar, grille lights, bed lights, and an air compressor all wired in the engine compartment. I definitely have taken the lazy route with wiring and have them all connected to the positive battery for power and all crappily grounded to a bolt on the frame. I know its not the best method but this wasnt a problem until the blown fuse situation at the mechanic.

Could it be a grounding issue? Or would something else cause it? If it is a grounding issue I will unwire all the mods and try to clean up how I have them grounded in the engine bay to see if that fixed the problem. If anyone thinks it could be something else please feel free to chime so I can try those methods too.

My biggest gripe is with the throttle response, its very annoying and a bit dangerous in traffic. I want to make sure it not something on my end before I reach out to KDMax to have it looked at.

Let me know what you guys think!

    Thanks!

I doubt the door locks, stereo presets/songs, and throttle are all tied together,,, or as far as the delay is concerned. BUT, I am no tech and will let them reply here.
I have always had a 2-3 second delay when locking the truck when touching the driver's door handle, but my GF's 4R is the same and I am told they're all that way.

This happens to all of us, it’s just part of getting old!

If you are noticing a lag in the audio system it’s probably the amount of files you have on the card - it’s taking longer to read the music catalog files. I doubt the issue is grounding for the door locks, but to avoid grounding issues, as you know, it’s better not to use the frame. You could run ground from your items to a bus and have a single larger gauge cable go from that to the battery.

Interesting, its just weird as it wasnt a problem and was instant and then all of a sudden after a blown fuse and a battery disconnect it started. The truck locking did always have a few second delay but unlocking used to be instant, now I have to hold my hand in the door handle for a few second before it unlocks.

I appreciate the input. I think either way I will try to clean up my grounding in the engine bay to see if that does anything. Just weird that the unlock used to be instant and now I have to hold the door handle for 2-3 seconds before it unlocks. I could chalk it
