The biggest reason we did it this way was to decrease the amount of ground clearance lost. We find most skid plate manufactures remove these bars. Since our plates do not attach to the frame rail, we were not sure if we wanted to do the same. It also didn't help that the 4th gen 4 runner guys BLASTED us for doing this. :p lesson learned, and ultimately it makes for a better skid plate leaving them on.

Those bars are about an inch tall? That would put the plates about an inch lower. Then add on some type of bolt protector of offset to recess the bolts and we are easily at 1-1.5". On those that do not have an exhaust reroute it wouldn't be a big deal, but those that have an exhaust reroute it would really bite to lose that much after gaining it back.

The OEM cross bars have some bolt protection built in. We find with the button head bolts they typically slide over the bolts and won't get destroyed. This of course depends where you are wheeling and the type of rock you are on.

Will you offer a flat transfer case skid for those with a reroute?

You can if you want to. The different thickness plates will be the main issue. We do make a steel cat protection plate incase you didn't see it. Or an aluminum front plate :p.

Yes, I would really like to 3d scan a truck that already had it done... but I might end up just having to guess at it and wing it.

It should be the same as the bent one but without the bend unless you are trying to gain even more clearance by tucking it up further or something.

That is basically what I would do. I am pretty sure the transfer case is tucked up high enough to not be an issue.

Thanks for describing the thought process, it makes a lot of sense to go the way you did. Every design has its tradeoffs!

This is not nearly as good as a 3d scan but here is what my setup looks like. Mobtown skid for reference.

I'll modify the original wings to fit correctly.

Also, if there are any of you I4 4x4 guys in the Houston area, we can set up a time to stop by the shop and check it out...

Just took the measurement from the pic leakyac sent me. Looks like exactly 26 inches or very close, however I'm not 100% the line is perfectly straight like the laser scan shows. Is that number correct, and any ideas about the angle?

That is what I was thinking.

Basically for the I4 4x4 truck, Our front plate will fit, the 2wd Transmission plate we offer would fit as well I am not 100% sure on the transfer case plate yet. I about to send you a photo of what I think might be the main dimension that needs to be the same.

Can confirm the 2wd transmission plate fits and wings protect the 2nd cat. I have the 2.7 4x4. Thanks @Talon2006 for meeting up late on a Sunday afternoon.
