You got people here that bought 2023, 2022 Tacoma and are upset when they see/read 27MPG (average) on new Taco. Gee sorry new 2024 Tacoma gets better gas milage then your year old Taco. Then you got posters that claim new Tacoma is going to cost an arm and a leg, yet the base 2024 Tacoma will be offered $29,000. Bottom line hybrid Tacoma is going to decent to really good mileage for a mid-size truck. And you'll be able to buy base model all the way up to the the TRD Sport (with hybrid) for under $41,000. Yea the TRD Pro, Limited and Traihunter are going to be expensive but not necessarily the lower trim levels.

Bottom line good gas mileage is coming for new Taco along with reasonable pricing for lower trim levels. Deal With It.

Gonna quote this for prosperity, then requote when real world numbers of mpgs come out significantly under the EPA estimates (which in themselves wont be great)

Well EPA estimate are just that....estimates. They are typically not dead on. BUt I"m suspecting better real world MPG than the outgoing model be they only 2-4 points. Every bit helps.

The cheapest 2023 Sport double cab short bed 2 wheel drive is currently $37,910, there is no chance that a 2024 Sport with Hybrid is going to list at $41,000.

Heh, I have been logging my fuel economy in my cars for over 10 years and can be seen in my signature. My 22 TRD OF Manual I regularly get 22-24 MPG if I don't go above 65 MPH.

Can't defy physics, high truck, big tires and high speeds are all going to reduce fuel economy. I spent just under 40K for mine and pay another 5-10 k for an extra 4 MPG. That is insane.

I find it pretty interesting if you go to Toyota's website and click on the upcoming land cruiser it shows the estimated mpg, but if you click on the upcoming tacoma, it doesn't mention it? Isn't the tacoma coming out first?

Regardless I'm more interested in how this new tacoma is going to drive with the new engine and 8 speed automatic transmission combo.

Yes, and a lot of people seem to be assuming the hybrid will be “the” Tacoma motor, but more likely it’ll be the forbidden fruit found only under the exclusive hoods of Limiteds, Pro’s, TH’s, and a few other select (read:expensive) trims. It won’t even arrive until virtually 6mo into production. 465lbft is always a compelling argument, but Toyota ain’t selling that one for less than a suitcase of cash. Hence they’ve been so coy with discussing prices.

Toyota’s clear intent is for the volume powertrain to be the 278hp 4cyl turbo wheezer brought to you via Highlander. Curious I see few people opening threads exalting the many attributes of that particular motor, yet it (along w the base turbo) will be found in the vast majority of trucks sold.

Toyota trumpets their move to SUV electrification, but cannot or will not produce the vehicles en masse. A two-year wait for a Rav4 Prime? Really? The hybrid Tacomas are fantasy to most would-be buyers, at least for the next several years.

The same “wheezer” that makes the same horsepower and vastly more torque at lower RPM than the current 3.5?

Yes, referring to the four w 52 lb/ft more than the outgoing six. Wheeze would more describe the sounds it makes going down the road. Personally not interested in all the extra 4cyl turbo baggage just to shave a couple tenths off the quarter mile, so hard pass for me.

On the other hand, that honking 465 lb/ft of combined torque definitely has my future attention, regardless of how they conjure it up. I’m just hoping we don’t have to include a spare kidney with our trade to get an iforce max.

The 4500 lb Highlander Hybrid gets 35mpg. 27 in a moderately heavier, less aero dynamic vehicle is totally possible. One thing for sure is that you can’t beat physics. It takes energy to propel mass. A heavy foot that spools that turbo up is going to burn a lot of gas. So reports from owners of observed MPG is going to vary wildly depending on driving style and elevation change.

I take it you haven’t spent much time in the modern crop of turbo 4 vehicles if you think they sound wheezy

I have a feeling they will make the Hybrid available on the Sport and Off Road through some sort of Premium Package to drive the cost up substantially.
