    Did the belt survive?

As for projects, it's been pretty quiet. Tomorrow may be hydraulic fluid change on the tractor. I last did it after the break in period 14 years ago :anonymous:.

    I figure it's a closed system so...:notsure:.

It takes 21.6 litres or 5.7 US gallons of fluid ($106) and two filters, which are $74 combined.
I tried cross referencing the filter p/n's, but I bailed because it was a pain in my southern states, which is unlike me.

Ha! What's the difference between hydraulic fluid changes and engine oil changes? Nothing! Yet,people complain when the engine goes to 10Kbetween changes. Aslong as the viscosity is correct, you can use engine oil in a hydraulic system and vice versa. The additives are almost identical.
But, I don't know anything about hydraulics lol.
We have a current application where the customer is going to use an AW46, which is about a 10 40 in engine specs for his hydraulic system to simplify oil changes for the customer. Our pump and motor cost about $35K to end customer. Full fluid change is around 50 gallons.

I shut it down in seconds, the belt looks fine. It is the original belt too, 16 years old.
This one only drives the two hydro units.

Interesting. This is even more special sauce since it's for a hydrostatic system. :rofl:I was thinking about the big crop sprayers, combines, and tractors going nonstop this time of year, and the fluid changes for them.

I don't know nuthin about nuthin, but the obvious difference I see is how dirty engine oil is when it's changed compared to hyd fluid. :notsure:

It's not dirt. It's soot from the detonation cycle. That is the only difference, and soot is harmless as it is less than one micron. Wear particles from pistons in pumps and engines, bearing wear, cam lobe wear, etc is all the same.
It throws everyone off though. They see dark brown and think dirt. They see clear hydraulic oil and they think clean, when actually the hydraulic fluid is probably dirtier than the engine oil, because it hasn't been changed in FOURTEEN YEARS LOL. But seriously, changing the filter is most important on engine oil or hydraulic system. The only reason you have to change the engine oil every now and then is that soot will turn to sludge eventually. So, you gotta change it because you really can't filter out the soot unless you pulled the oil out and ran it through a bypass system, and that would cost more than the oil change. Hydraulic fluid, as long as it has a fresh filter than you are good for a long time.
Here is a picture of a chart I keep handy just to put things in perspective for my brain. FYI the clearance between ring and piston is about 25-30 micron. And soot is 1-2 micron.
upload_2023-8-4_9-8-8.pngOh, you can inhale particles up to about 40 micron. Diameter of a human hair is 50 micron on average. I don't know about you guys, but sometimes I need a sanity check after listening to advertisements for waxes and oils and cosmetics and drugs.

Engine oil see combustion and your going to get blow by.

Some places will run hydraulic oil through an external filter machine change filters on the vehicle run til the next change cycle.

When I was driving trucks, we would run a minor, then a major service every 10K. On the minor service, they would change the oil filter, top off the oil, and grease the chassis and 5th wheel; then, for the major service, they would replace the oil the filters and grease everything again. I want to say the motors would hold about 20 gallons of oil, so the major service was not an inexpensive cost. We would have to do a major service about 5-6 times a year.

Last weekend on my guys trip one of my buddies flipped a golf cart with another guy in it. The one who wasnt driving had the main metal roof support land on his shin/lower calf area of his leg. It was bruised and pretty gnarly looking by the time we split up Sunday. My guy is in the hospital today with a blood clot. Not a good situation.
