Yeah it’s just front wheel drive right now bc UPS sucks and I’m waiting on my rear driveshaft still lol. I did take it for a short drive a little bit ago, all seems well. Looks like there may be a minor leak between the rear case and the crawl box though. Hopefully that was just some residual from somewhere, but I get the feeling the trans will be coming back out soon

Front shifters are complete. Also swapped out my trans crossmember mount bolts with some made for the 3rd gen trucks. The stock R155 mount bolts were a different thread and pitch. I ordered a 3D printed cup holder from Blue Dog Design Works for the rear shifter. The plan is to use A/T FJ cruiser t-case upper and lower shift boots for the rear case.

I also ran the three breather lines from the cases and trans forward to the driver side area where the diff breather is. Since there is no ADD on the truck, there was an extra port open on the bracket that mounts on the front diff for the breathers, so I just used that. Still waiting on my rear driveshaft. Hoping that turns up sometime this week, but im not holding my breath

Sounds like you got it properly sorted. Also looks OEM. Bravo on that.

    Time for some Gymkhana???

I’ve been trying to keep things as OEM looking as possible. Pretty stoked with how things are turning out so far. Hoping the back one ends up as clean as the front two

I had to look that one up! That would make for a good shake down test :D

The rear driveshaft came in today. It showed up in great shape, so that’s a win. I went with a one piece with a double cardan joint. Took it for a couple of test drives and so far so good! Need a little clearancing on the carrier bearing crossmember but that will hopefully be minor.

    IMG_8957.jpg

Also threw on a badge from a RAV4. Time to sort out all the little things, and enjoy this thing some. So far it’s pretty sweet imo:D

Thanks Patrick! It has definitely been a long road to get here but worth it for sure. I now see why people say to just trade it for a 4wd

But if you wanted a regular old 4wd... you'd have done that. Now you've got something unique that's built and doing what you want it to do. Fly your "built not bought" flag with pride

Had to break out the death wheel for some additional crossmember clearance yesterday. I wasn’t getting anywhere with the grinder so it was time to go for the gusto. Problem solved now.

Heard back on the 3d printed console last night. Here’s a model of what it will look like. I had them remove the switch cutouts and extend the t-case cutout 1/2” forward so it’ll be about 4.5” long. The rear case shifter will need to be cut and relocated anyways but the extra cutout will help some

I know most on here don’t like AWD but man this thing is awesome now. Traction is no longer an issue in first gear, she just rips!

I do 4x4 launches on occasion and the traction is soooo much better for that so your truck is pretty much always set up that way now . These trucks are far too light in the ass end to get proper traction when giving it in first.

Great job on everything, looks REALLY good!

If you don't want to weld a plate back in that cut out section, then I recommend adding a bolt on loop, where the carrier bearing used to be. It'll add back rigidity.

Man that makes me want to go for a ride!

Yes it does. Feels like a completely different vehicle, so I can only imagine the AWD aspect in the truck. A Toyota competitor to the GMC Syclone.

Its good for taking off when turning right at stop lights too. You can give it the beans and it doesnt just try and kick out the rear end. It's fantastic

Thanks brother! I am pretty happy with how things are turning out so far. It has been quite a lot of work though

I will have to look into one of those, or maybe you could help me weld in a plate the next time i'm down. I dont have a mig welder but i keep finding more and more reasons to buy one..

Even at this power level the truck is a lot of fun. I think i'm going to try and leave things alone for a while with regards to the driveline.

Maybe something like this depending on width...so long as it can articulate enough with the suspension:
