Hey Kevin, here's a pic of the electric WH I put in 5-6 years ago.



It's all about the proper fitting /couplings, which I already had.
If yours are correct, and look like this you're in business.

Switch off circuit breaker (you should have done this already).
Turn off water (both pipes) to WH, drain, swap out water heaters.
Swap piping to new WH. Use teflon tape and whang 'em down tight
The wiring is simple, connect existing wiring to new water heater (per instruction booklet).
Fill tank per instructions and switch on WH, done.

If you don't have the correct fittings, it's a half hour job installing new ones...
... assuming you know how to solder copper pipe or have a friend who knows how.
The fittings on the new WH will be correct already, per industry standard.

Note the flex hoses.
So convenient if the new unit is a different height from the last one.

If your WH setup is natural gas, maybe someone else can advise.
But just last month I replaced my old backup propane furnace, and that was simple to do as well.

I bet I haven't mowed the lawn more than 5 times this year.
It didn't rain for practically the whole month of June and the grass kind of went dormant.
