So far public reaction to bears, cougars, moose, bison, etc. has been pretty animal friendly. Usually blaming the person, or at least society for encroaching on habitat. Which seems reasonable...

But as encounters mount and outcomes get less friendly ya gotta worry about how public perception is going to change. Sooner or later there will be a cute little girl, and horror, and things may get real.

Bears can be taught. They are very smart. Big cats not so much, but they understand danger/fear. Other animals have other motivations and understandings. I doubt anyone is being proactive other than the people using bear dogs in national parks. And then, of course, there are the people feeding wildlife in their own back yards...

A little something every chance we get.
Just haven't had many this year, with lack of shade and constant heat, so here we go.

Good advice Mike. Fortunately I keep mine closed all the time and the only wild life I have around me is deer, fox, a few ground hogs and an occasional racoon.

Up staters generally get a bear license unless it attacks livestock. Then the game wardens try to take care of the problem.
North Jersey has a bigger bear problem per area than PA

Thank you, Ken. This has been a little hard to swallow. I met Devyn once - on the TAB "belly rub" day. To say she made a huge impression on me would be a great understatement. I had not met Zach, yet. We were asked to not share what we (didn't know) on social media - so following is what CAF members and friends had to say. There are no details, past that the plane crashed solo in Lake Winnebago. It's hard to imagine why, but that is the only other detail I know. Man, 30 and 20 years old respectively. :(

We are saddened by this news and to know we were in flight 2708_ac22dd2b1aa9855e595342a1a30fe7dc541a77cf.png waving along Devyn and Zach as we headed NW for our 2-ship formation flight Saturday morning. No one could have imagined the tragedy that would happen moments after.
Our heartfelt condolences to the families of Devyn and Zach.

The past few days have not been easy for our Wing members, families, and friends. It’s been difficult to find the right words to share on social media, so thank you for your patience as we share this news that many have already heard.
On July 29th, Wing Members Devyn Reiley and Zach Collie Moreno were attending the annual EAA AirVenture event. Devyn was flying her family’s T-6 Texan with Zach as her passenger when they crashed into Lake Winnebago in Wisconsin.
Devyn was much more than just a pilot; she touched many lives with her adventurous spirit and kind soul. Devyn had a passion for preserving the legacy of vintage military aircraft and sharing the stories of the men and women who flew. She had a special devotion to honoring the history of the Women Air Force Service Pilots (WASPs). Her passion for flying was unmatched alongside her husband, Hunter.
Zach Collie Moreno was 20 years old and a member of our Wing. He had a tough go for most of his life but found a love for aviation and through it was working towards earning his A&P license. He loved everything warbird related and was just getting started on his journey in aviation and in life. Zach also loved, and had a talent for, photography. Many of the photos published by our Wing in the last year were Zach’s work.
As we grieve the loss of our two dear friends, let us remember the impact they had on our lives and the legacy they leave behind. We will update you with information about memorial services for Zach and ways to support the families in the coming days. Devyn’s service will be held at our hangar on Saturday, August 5th at 10 a.m.
    Blue skies Zach and Devyn.

    Evening all:

Dang Kurt, I thought the "gone West" was in reference to an older gentlemen that bit the dust, not those who were so young. Very sad to hear, condolences to their family and friends.

Saw there was a message on my answering machine this afternoon, it was from a service buddy in Alabama calling to inform me that another service buddy from Carbondale Pa. had just passed away :(, I called back and left a message for him. I don't know how he found that out unless he still has contact with the family and they contacted him.

It's an old phrase, new to me in aviation terms. If you search it, you will find references going back from whatever you find. In general, aviators seemed to pick it up in WWI.

I'm considering getting a new vehicle to replace my 06 Tacoma PreRunner that I've had since new, I'm 70 years old. My wife says, "You know, what you buy new may be your last vehicle"
That's a hell of thought! I put a reservation on a Tesla Cybertruck day #2 of signing up. Don't know if I can continue to be patient until who knows when. Looking at a 2023 4Runner, checked one out today. I could live with that.

Always a kick in the gut when we lose one of the kids to an aviation accident. It's been about ten years since one of the neighborhood kids passed.
    https://www.sasserfoundation.org/about/

Bob - 4Runner would be a good choice. They are still built in Japan, with a simple 4.0 Engine. My Tacoma is along the same lines. I plan to pass it along to my son once I hang up the keys.

Been having fun looking at properties in Sacramento. It has gotten insanely expensive, but there is a Parkinson's Boxing Gym downtown. Ideally, is to find a small bungalow within 1 mile of the gym: grocery store, coffee shop, all within walking distance. Over 2 miles, then ride my bike!

Sacramento has problems; it has changed a lot since I lived there, but it is still a decent smaller city. I like that I don't need to drive anywhere, but walking is good exercise—lots of bike lanes/paths. There is a good 120-mile bike path loop along the river, so good ride and exercise.

Limited produce this year. One tomato. Jalapenos have a few, stuffed with cream cheese, wrapped in bacon, and grilled is a meal in itself.

I like the T4R a lot. Was trying to put my wife in one, she preferred the Highlander. When we get to your position, if we need to buy another vehicle, it'll likely be a T4R. As that would be a decent compromise between a truck and the Highlander. Good luck Sir. :hattip:
