Well, now I'm in a pickle. I was putzing around under the 4Runner trying to figure out how to take off the locker actuator, but I decided to just leave it alone. I tried clicking the switch on and off a few times just out of curiosity and could hear it click, but not engage. Then, It would no longer click, and the light is stuck flashing, and now the 4Runner will not go into four-wheel drive. I can pull the lever and even get it back into low range, but the front differential (ADD)doesn't seem to be engaging. I disconnected the battery. Going to let it sit and see if a reboot fixes it.

You don’t need 4wd. You have a winch. Use it!

Ope You're right, you know more than the engineers who designed them and the techs who work on them. My bad. Lol.

    Probably your fuel pump :D

So, you have personally replaced fuel pumps due to people driving until the light comes on?

I'm just basing my opinion on like 500,000 miles of driving Toyotas and always running them until the light comes on. But, I'm sure every one of my fuel pumps was a ticking time bomb.

Very helpful reply from the only person on this thread who actually is a Toyota tech

I also drive until past when my low fuel light comes on. In my 45 years of driving, I’ve never had a fuel issue of any kind.

    Update:

It does seem to be engaging 4WD, but is not indicating it on the dash. Also, the locker light continues to flash.

Going to try disconnecting the battery again for a while and see if another reboot helps. At this point I don't know what the heck to do.

Sure would be nice if somebody on this thread was a tech and might have some idea what was going on and how to fix it.

Maybe one of the connectors at the locker actuator got some water in it so it's corroded.

That's definitely a possibility. I was thinking about unplugging it to see if that would clear up the flashing on the dash.

Sucks because it's kind of a pain in the ass to get to when the vehicle is on the ground. I was trying to avoid putting it back up on jack stands, but it's starting to look like I might have to

No, really. He stole it. Not me. I wasn't there. I found it in Grandmas' basement when she moved. He told me he and some friends stole it.

That's what I'm here for, the mods and the gear.
One of the very first "road dohickeys" I acquired was one of those flashing yellow lights.

Mine was a "Stonefeid Road" sign. Think my brother has that now.

I live on a true roller coaster road. 19% grade on one hill. 6 decent, steep hills within a mile. The kids try to jump the hills doing 80 (?) mph. I have thought about getting one of those speed radar trailers. Ya know, the ones that post your speed limit as you drive by, and put in the front yard. Then put a sign next to it that says, "HIGH SCORE-87".

    Wife does not approve.:anonymous:

I think that is an outstanding idea. Your wife is not a true visionary like yourself.
