Hey everyone I’m sure you all know the TRD sport has rear limited slip differential. I’m wondering if anyone knows if it’s possible to install rear lockers and if it’s possible where can I purchase one and preferably not air locker but automatic.

it is rear simulated limited slip. my question is, when you change it how will the computer react since it is brake activated somehow. will your dash light up with warning lights. i would like to put a old school posi traction in mine but i envision issues. don't mean to hijack your thread just adding on to your subject.

I've been wanting to do the same thing. Put in a detroit tru trac in my sport. And was wondering what would the computer do.

Lokka offers a lunchbox locker style aftermarket option, and it’s pretty affordable too if I recall correctly.

It's just like every other Tacoma Trim, it has simulated limited slip actuated by the brakes.

Yep. The differential itself is actually open.

Can't help you with whether an always-active locker would cause issues with the truck's system (I went with selectable lockers myself). If I had to take a logical guess though, it'll probably be fine.

    Edit:
Thinking about it more, would it interfere with the VSC, should it activate due to sliding on ice, hydroplaning, etc. since one wheel couldn't be slowed as easily relative to the other wheel? Or am I overthinking?

If you have an Auto Sport then yes, you have an 8.0" rear diff and there are lockers, lunchbox lockers and limited slip diffs readily available for that differential.

If you have a Manual Sport, then you have an 8.75" rear diff and you only have 4 options, factory E-locker, Eaton/Harrop E-locker, or ARB locker.

Now as for what the VSC and traction control will do if installed. That's easy to answer.... nothing. These systems work on wheel slippage ( wheel speed differences LH to RH wheels ) and since the axles would be locked together, there would be no difference in wheel speed. So it wouldn't do anything.

why would you put lunchbox when there’s truetrac

    it’s not

that’s not limited slip that’s called traction control a standard weak electronic nanny forced into cars 20+ years that nobody likes

not sure what VSC is and don’t have it. Sounds like something that should be deleted
