I can’t sit in the back seat of a 4R. I find the headroom unacceptable.

But otherwise fully agreed. They are basically the same vehicle for me. Flawed but loveable. Tacoma takes the edge for me since the 5 speed auto is about as prehistoric as the 6 speed in the taco.

The manual keeps it engaging and fun for me. But both vehicles are great, reliable work horses that will last 300k miles with proper care. I ended up with a completely different vehicle for a family car. Due to space/performance reasons

I'm 5'7" so headroom is rarely an issue for me.

A manual transmission option would be nice. Word around the campfire is that the gen 6 4runner might get a manual option, so a lot of folks are excited about that (myself included).

If they do that, I’ll probably trade my Tacoma for one.

If a 6G 4R with 270HP works for you, that 4R is going to be heavy.

If I end up getting a new 4Runner I'll have to most likely put my wife's Paddleboard on a roof rack. Not the end of the world. Heading out again today to look at a 2023 4Runner at a different Dealership (Escondido Toyota). My wife wants me to also consider replacing my 06 Tacoma with a new one. She says I look like a truck guy...nicest thing she's said to me in a long time!

Not quite sure I understand what you mean? The current 4R is heavy. :D

270 HP is fine with me, especially if it comes with 330 TQ @ 1700 RPM's. :)

I put kayaks on my roof regularly. Standing on the rock sliders makes tying them down easier, and it's a good excuse to buy sliders. ;)

That's if there's a 6G 4R, Pro would get the hybrid and no manual. Toyota could build a 6G TRD Sport with a manual or a base model with less HP and Torque. None of them will probably get a 3rd row if the LC does not. I'd just get the LC 250 over a 6G 4R.

I'm pretty sure the 4Runner will get the 2.4 turbo standard. And, yes maybe an option for the hybrid. But, I assume if they offer a manual it will potentially be offered on all trims except for those with the hybrid setup.

As far as the sixth gen 4Runner versus the Land Cruiser, I guess it comes down to price and what kind of off-road goodies it's going to come with. For the level of off-roading I do, the new LandCruiser looks more than sufficient. But, it's a little out of the range of what I should be spending. Plus, who knows what kind of dealership gouging there will be.

I am leaning strongly towards the LC250 out of the two at this point, but it's going to depend on a few things.

If it's the same as the LC and GX it would seem redundant, I'm sure it would sell. If it also offers a nonhybrid alternative to the LC that could appeal to buyers. If it got its own body something like a Tacoma sized Sequioa just to differentiate it self from the other two that would be interesting, or even a short wheelbase or just a 2dr version of the 250. Three 4dr SUV with the same wheel base don't make sense, and is kind of boring. I still think they would all sell.

Most people seem to be speculating that it will have a shorter wheel base than the LandCruiser and GX, and probably be narrower, similar in width to the Tacoma.

The current 4Runner/ GX/Prado wheelbase is 109 inches. The new GX/ Land Cruiser wheelbase is 112 inches. A lot of people think the current 4Runner is already too big, so hopefully Toyota makes it a bit smaller if anything.

Sounds like a different vehicle altogether than the other two. Doubt if something that size would be BOF if that's true. Would be cool to see a smaller BOF SUV, that size frame would be perfect for a compact truck, or a compact RC truck. Which probably wont be a consideration.

It's going to be on the TNGA-F BOF platform. Previous generations of 4Runners were smaller and always BOF.

Seeing that the new Land Cruiser has the same wheelbase as the 80 series, maybe the 4Runner will shrink to a 105 inch wheelbase like the third gen.

But it will most likely be a 4 cylinder turbo motor

Agreed. I moved on to a 4Runner TRD off road premium and it’s a far superior vehicle to my beloved Tacoma. Build quality, comfort, powertrain, everything.

More power + better potential fuel economy sounds good to me! Of course, reliability isn't proven yet.

Well, you'd fit right in with the anti turbo crowd in 4runners.com then.

Personally, I'm focusing on the good stuff, and just hoping it ends up being reliable.

This ^ 4runners are better made and run better than any 3rd gen. Taco.
