I have a question on my sons 2020 Tacoma 3.5 litre. His AC stopped working for about 3 weeks now. The code it gives states it is AC locked. After doing some digging that means the sensor on the compressor is bad. If the sensor gets changed does the Freon go when the sensor gets replaced? In other words when removing the sensor on the compressor will the

Check all DTC's and fuses first. Other issues can cause that DTC to pop up (Assuming the DTC is B1422/22).

2020? Is this still under warranty? I would try to get it to dealer, incase it needs other parts,,, as A/C systems often do.

We are in Canada and no not still under warranty. The Stealership up here is saying 550.00 just to bring it in for them to even start to look at it. My son does not have 550 dollars for them to just bring it into the shop.

hmmm, check another dealer, maybe up north is different, but I have never heard of this door-charge,,, sounds fishy. I have heard of paying hourly, that's common, but not putting a minimum amount on it.
to answer your question; I think you are going to have to dig deeper, than "AC locked". There is a magnetic clutch switch, that I wouldn't think would release pressure (given it's magnetic), but there is also a pressure relief that I believe threads directly in, that would.

No reason to take it to a dealership. Take it to a shop that does air-conditioning work. If you remove the sensor, you will lose all the Freon. You really don’t want to do that yourself. A full recharge is not cheap. An AC shop can evacuate the system and re-introduce your removed Freon and top it off if needed.

I will need to do some digging to find just a normal garage up here that has the equipment for the new Freon we have on our Tacomas. My friend owns a garage but he has not bought the new equipment for the new Freon. If so I would have taken it there.

^ This. There's nothing special about the Tacoma's A/C system but it's not a DIY job. Take it to a reputable A/C repair shop and tell them what you've found. They will be able to test and confirm what it needs and give you a more reasonable quote to get it back to working like new.

I agree, but since 2018 the Freon we have in our trucks is not 134a. It is new and a lot of smaller shops have not bought the new equipment for it. So I need to find a shop, so far no luck in finding a shop that will fix his truck and not charge 550.00 just to drive it into their floor.
