I agree and it was nice that Yzerman didn't have to "sell the team" or get locked into a Ken Holland-style long-term contract to get him.

 

It sounds like the Leafs may poop in your cornflakes. I see rumors of a Karlsson for Nylander, picks, and Murray trade. I'm not super happy with that trade if it happens. Personally I remember Karlsson becoming a toxicity in the Sens locker room and I think he had the same effect in SJ after a few years.

 

Sounds like the NHL is going to release its independent investigation of the Canadian 2018 World Junior team. Rumor is five players will have fairly large suspensions. This is going to be interesting since the police investigation is "ongoing" and the victim was already given a payoff from Hockey Canada that ended up pretty much gutting the organizers.

 

@OZ-T it looks like with Maclean not being renewed that Kevin Bieksa, Kelly Hrudey and Jennifer Botterill's time with Hockey Night in Canada will be also end. I'm not sure why CBC feels like Elliote Friedman needs to stay if they're dumping the whole panel? I liked Bieksa and Botterill's, Hrudey was just weirdly edgy and I agree he should go. Thoughts?

I was never a big Maclean fan on his own. I mean I like the man, I even read his book a few years ago and I agree with him a lot, but he's always going to be Grapes leash holder to me. He's the Moff Tarken to Darth Vadar.

 

Would be interesting. It's probably a better return than what we could do. EK would have to sign off on it, I believe so if the rumors are true that he wants to go to the Pens, that might work in our favor. But the Leafs offer would certainly be tempting, I would think.

The Pens finally made the trade for Karlsson. Any thoughts?

 

The day has finally come. Absolutely love it. Pretty much got rid of everyone that makes sense. Didn't have to buy anyone out. I'll take that trade every time. EK will fit in perfectly.

It seems like Dubas did work magic. He did give up a 1st rounder and a 2nd rounder (2025) but there was talk of having to give up 2 - 1st rounders and 2 - 2nd rounders. He got rid of three older, unproductive players with relatively high salaries and the only prospect he gave up isn't much. DeSmith went too. I'll miss him as a good backup.

 

Ya I think when factoring in how the deal freed us from 3 contracts we didn't want, I have no problem with giving up those picks. Fantastic deal, over all.

 

Bummer about Guentzel. I winder why they always wait until the season is upcoming before they have surgery? LOL.

 

For sure. I think usually when that stuff happens, it's because they think it'll heal with rest, during the offseason. And then if it doesn't follow the expected timeline, then they end up doing the surgery.

I finished up his house plans a couple months ago (it's now under construction) - and I'm currently doing a detached shop for him. I was under the impression with his 'forever' home base going up... he was all done with hockey, after his recent health issues..
