California plates? Are you from California originally?

Everyone seems to be complaining on the quality of the ranger. I bought a new 4.0 manual ranger in 94. When I sold it and bought my new 07 tacoma it had 150,000 miles on it and only thing that I ever had go wrong with that truck was a $40 wheel bearing. I cannot complain with that truck. For what they are built for I think it is a good truck. On that note I dont think that in compares with the quality, horse power, or capabilities of the tacoma. Like it was said earlier in this thread, it is like comparing apples and oranges. Just my 2c.

Currently owning BOTH a Ranger and a Tacoma, I can say that these sort of threads take place on BOTH forums (I'm a member over at ranger-forums.com)

I love my Tacoma, but that's a given seeing at my Ranger and Tacoma are 13 years apart!

The Ranger is a very capable vehicle, and I think a lot of people would agree that it's one of the better "platform" vehicles for off-road builds.

Maybe it's not the best off the showroom floor, but modded to the extent that I've seen some of the Tacomas around here are, I think you'd have yourself a good match.

Hate to be the new guy kickin' up dust around camp, but these sort of threads are like two guys in a bathroom with rulers.

I agree with a lot of this post here.

I just joined the forum because i was interested most in the Tacoma as a second truck down the road, right now i have a 2003 Ranger Edge, 4.0L 5sp auto and i think its great. I've never driven a tacoma but always liked the look of the newer ones 05+.

I started out my 'driving career' driving around my dads 2001 2500HD 6.0L 4 door Silverado all loaded with heated leather seats and what not and it was awsome. I live on an island so options for buying first/new vehicles are kinda limited, i ended up finding a decent deal on my ranger so i went ahead and got it. Its fun and easy to drive and my 4.0L has a surprising amount of testicles for its size.

Anyway im babbling on, the last thing i must say is, from what i've read in this thread....Tacoma owners are pretentious Dicks...but i still like the Tacomas, so no harm done.

yes I am, and fucking damn proud of it.

I'm sorry, but when I see a Ranger or a Dakota or a Frontier....I just laugh...all the way past them.

You are talking apples and oranges. You are talking a 28K $$ truck vs. a 12K $$ truck.

EDIT- I suppose if you have an 'Edge' maybe it was more expensive than 12K, but still...

I traded my '04 Ranger in for my Tacoma. The ranger was just a basic 2.3 2WD truck with NO options. It was a good truck, but nothing compared to my Tacoma.

my fx4 STICKERED around 28K. I think I picked it up for around 21K after the rebates and haggling though. It was the most expensive ranger at the time- in 2003.
