I am on a road trip and we about 100+ miles from a Toyota dealership. So I can only get some from an auto zone.

with the sweltering heat, it’s been 104-108 on the highway. Got to the motel and checked the truck over and noticed the coolant reservoir was empty.

i typically flush every 30k. My next is about in about 10k miles. This is one thing I always let the dealership do so.

    Should I use the red 50/50 ?

can I just top off the reservoir?

That would be fine but why not buy a gallon of concentrate and a gallon of distilled water and make your own 50/50 blend.

It's just that with the premix your paying almost the same price as concentrate for half water.

    A cold fill line? Pardon?

Just fill the radiator, start the engine and let it go through a warm-up cycle. Add coolant as needed. You can tell the engine has reached operating temp (t-stat open) when both radiator hoses are hot. Top off the reservior somewhere between COLD & HOT.

My old truck had a cold fill line on reservoir. you just add 50/50 to that when cold.

Hopefully it's just your overflow (the visible tank) that is low. Bear in mind that there is also a radiator cap that you can open (when the engine is COLD) to see the level there too.

There is a cold and hot line marked on the overflow that you can use, but if you put too much, it'll just burp it out as you are driving anyway.

Yes. "Full Cold" and "Full Hot" lines. If the reservoir is empty, add until it's approx half-way between the two, and check it again when the engine is fully warmed up: top off to the "Full Hot" line. On a trip, I would get the premix.

Just top it off with distilled water until you get home.
