Don't forget TFL is the same site that did the big test of the Ford Lightning driving from Colorado to Alaska only they really did not drive it all the way, they took a water transport that knocked a lot of miles off the trip, then they had to beg businesses a long the way to let them plug their charger in so they could recharge the thing. When all was said and done the only thing TFL ended up doing was show how bad the Lightning really is. Their Lightning tow test was a huge bust as well as they did not even make it 100 miles and they abandoned the rest of the test.

TFL needs to stick with driving pickups up the mountain while towing.

Yeah, about all they showed was how miserable owning a Lightning would if you tried to use it like an actual truck. Might be ok for running back and forth to the office, and hauling golf clubs to the links. Any “real” work forget about it.

They must be doing pretty good financially noticed the kid is starting to put on the pounds like his dad in the Land Cruiser video…

it all comes back to the old adage:

Sure, but even in abundance, mining battery minerals still present the same global economic issues. I’m less concerned about the mines unable to produce because lithium is scarce. More concerned that the common EV will cost 60k in todays dollars because those holding reserves will slow trickle supply a la OPEC.

Remember gas prices go up, that car still costs the same, maybe less if a hog. Not the case with materials needed to build an EV.

But most concerned with charging logistics. Unless something like Toyotas claim of 10 min charging/700 miles becomes a reality in short order, EVs will be limited to households who have driveway parking. Where in my region, that eliminates 60% of drivers.

Same here. The truck was lipstick on a pig kinda. I wonder how many of the “don’t buy a first one” crowd actually ever have. I’m excited for all the upgrades!!

    Two.
Should have learned my lesson the first time around.
Have fun with that, and let us know how it goes.

I'm sure I'll probably get a 4th gen, after another 5 or 10 years. My current Taco runs and tows way too well too give it up.

Hmmm, over the years I've had two "first year" cars, my 1970 Challenger and my 1999 E46 328i; both cars were wonderfully reliable.

My first year 2nd gen is approaching 20 years old and 175K. It did have the frame replaced, but that had nothing to do with being 1st year and I go through brake calipers at an odd rate. Otherwise, it too betrays the don’t-buy-first-year adage.

Yep, my ‘05 still going at 278,000. It’s been through one alternator, one set of brake calipers, a few batteries… that’s about all I can recall.

The first-year fears are nothing more than people looking for something to worry about.
