That same key fits in the keyhole on your door handle

Got a pic? Maybe there’s some aftermarket replacement or plastic cover? They all come stock with a key hole. How would you get in your truck to start it if your fob battery died if there weren’t?

I thought any vehicle had to have at least one keyed lock to access the passenger compartment...

    They do. And his does
Edit: …unless it’s modded. And I guess it wouldn’t have to be aftermarket. If people can install drivers handles on the passenger to get touch controls I suppose someone could do the opposite to get rid of the keyhole

holy shit. ok. it has a key hole. idk how i never noticed it. the little key in the fob works in it too.

    im an idiot

when i bought the truck, the dealer said just put the fob next to the handle and start button if the battery dies. it would have enough juice to turn on.

Happens to the best of us!
Dealer was partially correct; you have to use a key for the door, but if you push the start button with your dead fob it will start the truck.
I think that this feature is independent of the fob battery, like NFC or something, but don’t quote me on that.

Just be careful! My buddy Rat-Dog rolled the window down when she was in my van. She managed to open the passenger window while she was watching for me out the driver’s window. If she had noticed she could get out, she would have come looking for me. This is my solution. 50B4780C-0072-4D6A-A439-D3FF5494168F.jpgF2557BBB-E7E8-4DE3-9BBC-F610F0B1E406.jpg68D7DD03-92E9-459D-A674-3D69E91A66AA.jpg

You reach thru the open window and pull up on the window switch. Gotta get that arm outta the way or your new name will be stubby.

Some PETA freak might call the cops and have your windows broken to "rescue" the dog.

I don't have remote start on my Tacoma so I can't say for sure, but some vehicles will shut a remote started engine off after a certain period of time has gone by. I would check if there is a remote start engine shut off timer.

10 or 15 minute run time on the Tacoma, long enough for most people to go take a piss and get a snack.

I leave the truck running, take the key fob with me, and lock the door using the lock button on the driver's side door.

If the truck will be out of my sight I will get out, close the door, and use remote start. Don't leave your fob in the truck

I take my dog out in truck sometimes when it’s hot. Don’t ever leave him too long. I just get out, lock doors, and then remote start it.

Generally the truck won't stay locked if it is running, it doesn't detect a key fob, and you just use the lock button.

My Tacoma has a key, so problem solved. However, our Lexus uses a fob and the valet key won't go into the tiny keyhole without pulling up on the door handle and that opens the door before the lock sets. Catch 22!
