Most times I commute to work on an ebike, weather permitting, until it gets into the 40s at night then it's no fun. My motorcycle is for fun weekend rides. I won't ride it to work because I don't trust the lowlifes where I work. I drove my taco today because it's been drizzly and rainy all day. Taco is 2 years old and has 7k on the clock. Ebike is 2 years old and has 1700 miles on it so far and the year isn't done, it should hit 2k. More miles on the ebike means less miles on the taco so it should last me a long time. I'm hoping to never buy another truck again.

I commute 95% of the time on one of the motorcycles. I put more miles on the BMW than I do on my 4Runner in any given year. One part of the equation for me is the cost of a parking permit. Yay working on a college campus. I pay $97/yr to park the bike compared to the approx. $853/yr for a comparable 4 wheeled permit. If I take the 4Runner in I pay $8 or $9/day, so I can do that 84 days and still be saving money.

I think I’ve put 5k miles on my 4Runner since 30 Dec 2021 when I replaced the tires, that was at 71426 miles and I’m at 76k on it now.

    //
I didn’t buy the bike for fuel economy or maint costs, it’s 30-40 minutes in the am to myself and same in the afternoon. I love riding more than driving and it’s therapeutic for me. Just gotta keep my head on a swivel here in the DC area and anticipate the morons in cages.

My riding dealbreakers are snow, ice and lightning. I’ve stuck around work to let thunderstorms pass. Rain doesn’t bother me and I have had to empty water out of my boots before and use a heat gun to dry them out.

Yup, snow ice and lightning here too. Very rarely rain will deter me from riding, but if it's anything short of a downpour it's tolerable for me. Amazing how much wind deflectors, hippo hands, fixing my heated grips, and installing a heated seat did for cold weather, rain comfort, and extending my season year-round.

Yup. not so much saving on parking costs, but parking hassle, as well as traffic, etc. the advantages are endless, and the smiles/mile are infinitely greater.

I put about 12k on my S1000RR since I got it just over a year ago. My truck got about 3-4k miles lol. Still love driving the truck but the bike is just incomparable.

Only times I won't ride are if I'm sick, very hungover, or the weather is just absolutely miserable.

Reminds me of a much less ridiculous version of the old Malibu Boat ad when they put an LS7 motor in a Wakesetter:

Oh man being hungover in a helmet is the absolute worst. Rode to a friends wedding and camped at the venue over night, had a phenomenal time, then spent the 3 or 4 hour ride back home trying to unsuccessfully outride a hangover. Had to pull over a couple times :puke:

Also funny timing on this weather talk, got stuck in a 20 minute rain storm today and steamed the absolute shit out of my buns drying my seat and pants with the heated seat. Toasty warm :bananadead:

It's been over 100F here for weeks. I love riding but I just can't enjoy it when it's so hot out. I want to go back to Alaska and ride until there's too much ice to get out of the driveway safely.

Did some work on the grom and the monkey.
I installed a drop fender kit for the monkey. Moves the front fender from overhead mount to brackets that attach to the forks. After installing it I didn’t like it. I didn’t like the way the hardware was mounted over the top of the fender. Well I thought what the hell I will modify this kit to mount from under the fender and be lower on the tire. Wasn’t easy but not hard either. Little heat, vise, hammer, drill bits and drill. Here are before and after.

Heat index here has been 105-115 pretty much every day for the past month or 2 but it hasn't stopped me.. I'm THAT cheap. The bike getting 35-45mpg compared to 15 in the truck makes me feel good enough to put the heat aside.

just a couple of things tbh
i like this thought process! for me thou its a bit different since my bike realllly isnt highway friendly or the best road bike... mine is very much a toy that i still commute in sometimes.

the reason for that is last year after i sold my si it was between my bike that got 65mpg or my tacoma that got 9 on a good day... plus my old trucks unreliability.... but now i have my ranger its a year old and gets roughly 20mpg even with me doing 80mph. i find my self still jumping on my slow little dirtbike to ride 30mins highway or 40mins backroads to work its just more fun tbh even if its slower or im riding in god awful humidity... but i stay away from rain snow or ice. tbh just not a fan of rain.

    haha i remember that!

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
Looks like a blast. Been wanting an e-something for a minute now for night rides in close quarters. If I could have a lot of suspension, some power and the ability to roll stealth…that would be glorious!

If I could bomb my mtn for a couple hours in silence, that would be the shit!

That is a beautiful machine! Reminds me of my 250XC (2 stroke) desert racer I sadly sold pre family. I want that or a KTM 500 exc-f.
