save your pennies for OEM LED's. Almost every aftermarket manufacturer has seemingly cut corners in some way. Wait for a Black Friday type deal and you can pick up a set as low as $1200. I just sold my used set for $1050 if you'd consider used.

As others mentioned, those lights are cheap Chinesium assemblies, no where close to OEM halogen or OEM LEDs and a huge downgrade from stock. If looking for an inexpensive fix, look in the market place section for some used OEM halogen assemblies and swap in some Philips H9s to the low beams. If you want the very best, go for the OEM LEDs.

Dumped the Tacoma, that's all it needed.
I guess oncoming traffic doesn’t need to see at all..? Or the people in front of you..?

check to see if yours are properly aimed.

seems like less light because it only hits the road like it designed to do, not all over the place like led conversions do

Found a OEM pair of headlights and pulled out the old ones. With then out I can see its stamped "Vland".

With after market LED's in can instantly see a massive improvement!

    Pics dont do it justice.

Fahren Termitors for high and low beam.

Ill need to adjust the beam down a little but couldnt be happier

Interesting read. The guy is trying to sell you different lighting products so hes got finacial motive.

Ive made the change from OEM bulbs before to LED's and the performance cant he denied. He can try all day to try and be scientific and use theories to justify his points but its all smoke and mirrors.

Thanks for the opposing viewpoints though. Ive read through it but disagree.

I still suggest making sure your headlights are aimed properly, especially with different bulbs in them. Swapping headlights never guarantees they are already aimed where they need to be. They might look brighter and "better," but there's a good chance you're blinding everyone else on the road. This video gives a good breakdown of how to aim them.

Daniel Stern does have a web site and will sell you lighting products, but that's not his main reason for his being. Daniel is an internationally recognized lighting expert who has helped develop lighting regs in Canada and elsewhere. He has written countless technical articles on lighting and really is the premier source. I've had many email conversations with him regarding both automotive lighting, photography and graphic design (his husband is a graphic designer) while I am both a photographer and graphic designer.

Replacing your stock H11 halogen bulbs with LED replacements is both illegal and unsafe. You may think those bulbs are better, and they may indeed be brighter in some areas, but they do not meet any federal lighting standards and most likely over light directly in front of the vehicle, which tricks the uninitiated (YOU) into believing you've found the secret but in fact you're only fooling yourself. Not only are you most certainly over lighting immediately in front of the truck, those bulbs will be under lighting exactly where the light is needed the most and at the same time causing dangerous glare to oncoming traffic. If you're involved in an accident that has to do with lighting and your insurance company finds that you have illegal bulbs there's a good chance they will deny your claim.

Please re-read all of Daniel's website and take it to heart. It's the best information out there, then go up to the stickies section at the top of this page and slog through Crashburn's impossibly long but very informative thread comparing all of the halogen options and virtually all of the LED options with actual measurement and reasonably good photos. The bottom line is that the headlight assemblies that are designed for halogen bulbs need to use halogen bulbs in order to keep the filament in the exact optimal position for designed optical performance. The tolerances for filament size and placement are that it needs to be within a third of a millimeter of the design spec in order to work as designed. While it's not impossible to design an LED bulb assembly with emitters that mimic those dimensions, it IS impossible currently to do so and have sufficient output. That's what you call a conundrum. The best choices for you are to replace those LED's with Phillips H9 65W bulbs for $20-$25 a pair (or less) or to use one of the more expensive high performance H11 halogen +130 rated bulbs which perform great but have a shorter lifespan.

Daniel Stern is most certainly not smoke and mirrors. He's the real deal and if you're as bright as you think you are, you'll pay close attention.

Postscript: Daniel and I were having a back and forth about the efficacy of fog lights where he was saying basically what I posted earlier about how useless most of them were when I told him I had a pair of new old stock Cibié 175's on my pre Tacoma Toyota truck and his response about those was something like "Oh, that's different, those are the real deal". I still have those but they're in my garage. They're not really needed after you replace your halogens with the factory OEM LED assemblies which are some of the best lights you can buy right now, and at about $1500 a pair probably the most cost effective safety upgrade you can make for your Tacoma.

I think he found OEM halogen housings and stuck aftermarket LED bulbs in them.

Yes, agree 100%...They were way too high with the increased output. I just lowered them to match the "other" side.

We would need to see it on the wall a bit farther away, and probably with some measurements, but from those pictures it looks like it might be pretty bad.

Remember, the entire purpose of the LOW beam is to NOT blind other drivers, the purpose of the HIGH beam is to provide as much light as possible. If your low beam is blinding others you might as well have saved the money and just drove around with your high beams on all the time.

Remember that with projectors the light does not get "better" for other drivers if you aim them down farther. The light above the cutoff on a projector is pretty even (aside from "squirrel spotters") so provided the cutoff is below eye level then aiming them down only reduces your distance projection without reducing the amount of light oncoming traffic receives.

See how there is no cut-off line? You are spraying light into other drivers eyes.
