I recently bought a2001 2.7 Tacoma and when I went to look at it before purchasing ,the guy I bought it from started it and it ran well. It ran for about 20-30 minutes and ran out of gas. When the guy tried to load truck for delivery it would not start back. Found the ALT fuse was blown and replaced. It will now only run for 2-3 seconds and die. I replaced crank sensor and cam sensor, replaced fuel filter and still not running. Any ideas what I might need to try next? It does have gas in it now but still no luck.

    4 run, 2 don't
Hope you kept some of your money as you did not buy it in a no-start condition.

I did buy it because it was running when I went to look at it. I figured something simple, but maybe not.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
The engine has failed to start since it ran out of fuel correct?

The pump sucked so much dirt the output has been quite reduced.

What cause the ALT fuse to open?

Just what if any codes have you pulled?

The Crank and Cam sensors failed from running out of gas? You tested them and they no longer worked?

    your battery is fully charged?

It can take a few long cranks to fully purge the fuel line, how long did you try?

Not sure what caused the fuse to open, it happened during the time I was waiting on truck to be delivered. I did try cranking several times until battery died. I will charge battery or change and give that a try. If it doesn’t start I will probably pull pump. I did crack open fuel line while cranking and it was pushing fuel to filter. Can’t get any codes because reader is unable to connect.

Hope it was a budget friendly purchase! :fingerscrossed:

And if the truck ever lived in salt country that you did a robust frame inspection.

Couldn’t pass up the deal and it had a frame replaced a few years ago, frame is great, that was the main reason for buying it.

Fuel system is pressurized. Fuel pump and filter were snugged up?
A new gas cap might help.
