If the PETA freaks don't get you, the enviro freaks might. Lots of places around here have anti idling laws.

Not how it works. Key fob won't lock the truck while its running.

i've used the Toyota app to remote start, and it has a 10 minute timer counting down to when it'll shut off. if need be, start it again. only problem is the app doesn't have a 100% success rate, at times it just refuses to start. so i make sure it works before getting too far away from the vehicle.

Just be careful leaving a pup in a vehicle during the warm months, even with the AC running. Shit happens!

I just did it this morning. You use the physical key inside the fob, not the buttons on the fob

Remember if someone is considering leaving a dog in the car after using the remote start, this will run for a while, but will automatically shut off as well after a while. I forget if it’s 15 minutes or something, but something to be mindful of.

Your door also has a keyhole... how do you think you would get in if your battery died...

My 07 will unlock the doors if I lock them and leave the engine running. I'm sure there is a way to program the vehicle to do let you do it, but you may have to take it to a dealer. I'm friends with several in LE who are dog handlers. They leave their vehicles running with doors locked for hours at a time.

Yes, that was my experience. Prior to having remote start, I would try this. I had to change the settings in my truck so only the driver's door would unlock with the fob. This would allow me to, then, manually lock the door from the outside. The door buttons would not work for me for this purpose.

Don’t know if it matters but I am using OEM replacement remotes. 1st set weren’t rated for submersion…and yes I did it a 2nd time. Also added a non OEM remote lock for the tailgate.

I have been doing this for years leaving the dog in the truck or car. I turn off the engine leave the vehicle with the dog inside and then every 5 -10 minutes remotely start the truck and this will cool the truck down and it will automatically shut off after 8-9 minutes. I always sit by a window so the vehicle is visible and always make sure the vehicle is actually running as the lights are on but the newer Tacoma the lights do not come on so I have to be careful to make sure it is running so what I do is turn it off and restart right away or walk out to the vehicle to make sure. Never make an assumption that truck is running. just saying

It's ten mins. I work a lot from my truck and when that bad boy turns off it gets hot in there really quick, like dead dog hot. I would at the VERY least set a timer for 7 mins to get back over to it. Not worth risking it with the auto start. My truck also just turns off after a while of me sitting in it with it on in park. I don't know an exact time but it does turn off after a while. I'm in FL, and like i said I work from my truck via the wifi a lot and it does turn off on me after sitting for a while.

If you order the N2Designs remote start, you can talk to them when you place your order and have them do a custom time for the truck to shut off. The standard time is 15 minutes, but they can do up to 60 minutes. I had them do this for me and it was no extra charge.
