I'll give a couple replies.

I went to work for Dr Monk when I was 12 years old. He was a math professor at the University of Richmond. I worked for him on an hourly rate. He taught me the value of a hard days work. Every year he guided me through wage increase negotiations. I did all manner of yard work for him year round until 16 years of age, at which time he asked me where I wanted to work next. At the time Ukrop's supermarket was "the place" all teenagers wanted to work locally. It happened he had taught both Ukrop brothers who were then running the family business. That week I got a call from the manager of nearest Ukrops to come in for an interview. I worked there from March '81 to October '83 when I left for Air Force basic training. I didn't realize how much he taught me and the huge difference he made in my life until reflecting upon it when I retired from active duty in 2009. I reached out to the university then in an attempt to contact and thank him. Sadly he passed away 2 years earlier. Dr Clarence Monk, rest in peace my life mentor whom I was very fortunate to know and thankful.

Sidenote: I went to university of Richmond for web design classes early in my career. Lived in charles city at the time.
