@Empty_Lord So my old Camry (2007 2AZ-FE) is burning oil rapidly now. Like every two weeks the dipstick is dry is what my brother is saying. With no oil leaks I’m going to assume the piston ring issues have finally won.

The technicians at this service department record an overview of all the things wrong. Which I enjoyed since I hate getting info secondhand from family members.

Dealership said it would take a day to get him a quote on all the things the car needs. But I’m really curious what a rebuild at a dealer would run in 2023.

way too much. i think the last one i did came out to like 4000 to rering.

the parts arent too expensive and its a stupid easy rebuild if you wanted to tackle it yourself.

I'm hours away. Not really possible since my brother would need the car done as quickly as possible to get to work. And I'd take a lot longer than the dealer.

What sucks is I have nowhere to put a third car. I'll just have to watch him sell it to someone for $1000 if he decides not to fix it. 145K miles and my grandfather bought it new with cash.

Edit: It really is tempting though. I think I have the knowledge even though I've never fully rebuilt an engine myself before. Just assisted on a 6BT and LS build in college. But if my brother is without it for very long the rental car or uber rides will stack up quick.

Just drove it, no tuning, but for the starting issue my laptop would be about my only hope other than a tow truck.

Been working on other things still

Ahh nice. I've never had a no start, a couple long starts though, I don't have enough fuel in my cranking I don't think since it lights off instantly when hot but takes a sec when like warm. Cold it lights right off too... Maybe I'll just interpolate the two good values haha

Ya I ended up adding an IAT axis and made it richer above 104F or something, which is working better

I'm just being realistic man. Whenever I've told friends and family what a vehicle is worth they list it for 1/3 of that and it sells within hours. Then they do that surprised Pikachu face while their facebook marketplace notifications blow up.

I'm sure someone at the dealership will offer him something for it before it even got to him listing it.

The condition it's in now with the oil burning is the ideal condition to dump it at carmax for max value... They barely question anything you trade into them and you get more value if you just find something on the lot you want

When I was hanging with guys who had "vintage" toyota parts 7yrs ago, they weren't worth shit lol.

I'd image the same for today given the 22r preference

I hope it works out for him. I remember 2007 being a trouble year for the Camry; my friend had one with a bad transmission a couple years ago.
